Hi all,

Can someone please tell me exactly what the 1 concurrent connection means?

I have 2 computers at home and use both on the internet. I am thinking of going uncapped, but I see with uncapped comes only 1 concurrent connection. Does this mean I will only be able to use 1 computer?

Thanks

Put the account on your router (pppoe mode) ...then you can share the account for all the pcs without any problems...this is 1 session.

Bridge mode (where each pc connects on its own account) is going to classify as more than 1 concurrent session.

It means from one location ( ADSL line ) at a time. You can pack as many computers behind that line as you want via the switch on your router, switches, wireless, whatever.

The restriction is to prevent the ( obvious ) case of buying one uncapped package and then selling it to others as uncapped via their own ADSL connections. Buy one and the whole country could have uncapped. ;)

Provided both connections use the same port, it should be fine. Unless they do the connection to port mapping differently to other accounts?

For example, my IS Local account allows only 1 concurrent connection, but I can connect using PPPoE from multiple PCs provided they're all using the same line.

My uncapped express works the same way, got very excited the first time and started calling someone to try to connect at the same time... was very sad when they couldn't :P

make sense though. i would be surprised if it wasn't the same elsewhere in the world.

One location only. I can create 6 pppoe connections for 6 computers with a account that only allows 1 concurrent connection.

So you are allowed to make a lot of pppoe connections from one location. Dial a conection on all the pc's/laptops as long as its the same adsl line. Only able to use the account with 1 adsl line at a time.

That sounds more like its six concurrent connections if you have six pppoe sessions going at the same time even if it is on the same line.

As long as the PC's are all plugged into the same router it is 1 connection!

The number of authenticated "handshakes" between a client and/or server during any given time before all communications have been disconnected whether by force or by refusal.

Best, and easiest, solution of the lot.

What if someone vpn into your connection? Is that not allowed?

What would be the point of that? They'll still need their own connectiionto get to your pc. Once in they aan utilize your account though.

Telkom

I speak under corection but I think with Telkom you can have more than one concurrent connection.

Once I get around to testing sub-interfaces on ATM I will know for sure.

A VPN would normally be used to connect to a private Intranet to access work stuff on the private server.

ie Using 3G with the VPN APN to access your Intranet remotely.

Why confuse the poor girl with all the techno-talk. Simply use your router to connect and then all the PC's can have access. Really easy setup.
