Uncapped dilemma

Hi guys,

Here is my current situation: Used to have Openweb 384 Express uncapped until IS started to enforce the rolling limits. I then decided to upgrade to 512 ADSL line and with that a package from Imagine-IPS (the 512 fibre Dyndns uncapped) - which did not work out so well (very poor international speeds and shaping Rapidshare / all international download servers traffic into the ground....).

Now I am looking for a new uncapped solution. I was looking at the IS Bussiness uncapped with static IP - only problem is that all the suppliers I know of requires a 12 month contract. Is there any suppliers out there that does not require a 12 month contract for this?

The other option was Neotel, but no coverage in my region.

So, what would you guys recommend?

Yep, I did read that thread, but no real helpful info there. The one recommended ISP, XDSL, splits the traffic 25% international, 75% local, meaning that you will only get 128kbps internationally on a 512 line!

Any one know of static IP IS accounts not with a 12 month contract?

Uncapped ADSL

I went through all the same motions.
I used to have the 512kb/s IS account for about two years and found the speed to be 384kb/s and not 512kb/s. Whatever I tried, I could never get more than 48kBytes/s. What is the feeling out there? Who gets true 512kb/s on a IS 512kb/s IS uncapped account?

I was on IS uncapped 384k - but I hated that stupid window period... joined Imaginet, but not having much joy there either...

A 512kbps line will give you about 52kB/s so you were pretty close, on a 384kbps line you only get 39kB/s.

Well, seeing that IS 512 uncapped with static IP is around R1500 per month, I came up with the following possiblity:
Take 4 x 30GB local only accounts from Openweb @ R130 per account = R520.
Then take VIP-access international VPN 512 option for R969 per month.

Total around R1500 per month, good for 120gb local and international traffic per month.

Also nice that no startup fee needed, can use own router and no contract.

What do you guys think?

What about openweb 512k - 30GB for only R749 per month!
and then just get lots of local?

@ Headstrong: Most of my traffic is international - so 30gb at R749 is not good enough. I used to download about 80gb a month on my 384 uncapped, mostly international.

@killadoob: I agree, 12 month contract = bad!!!

Ex ADSL User <--- I tried a few of the options, but just got fed up of lack of service and consistent intermittency, I switched over to Neotel's uncapped, finally I am a happy customer and get exactly what I pay for. Hope everyone gets the signal in their area asap.

Kasbah - i'd join up with Neotel in an instant if...

1. It was available in my area
2. They had an ethernet device...

Yep, also considered Neotel, but as said:
1. No coverage in my area
2. No ethernet device.

Eish.... also contacted Openweb in search of a local only IS account with 120GB of data - MrBeep can't help. Only 30Gb at one time.

Anybody else doing local only IS accounts?

Hey Friends

Remember that the OpenWeb Uncapped Express ADSL accounts do not have any rate limits Mon to Fri between 20:00 and 08:00 and ALL WEEKEND LONG!

I do hope that one day however we will be able to offer a truly uncapped service.

Kind regards

It's the same for all IS Express accounts as far as I know. It's a shame because it really lowers what you get for a small fortune each month, it would be better if IS at least changed it from 20:00/08:00 to 16:00/08:00 or something like that.

I don't know how much longer I'm going to stay with IS Express considering they've started to half the speed at times.
