With the new "adjustment" to the Telkom ISP structure I have been considering moving over to uncapped accounts. I am aware that these accounts use an IS backbone but just how slow is the international side? I download a LOT of AMVs as well as talk to many of my WoW friends on webcam etc and this eats my cap every month quite considerably.

I see a 384K uncapped service for R999pm, for this money I could also buy Telkom accounts and get roughly 27Gigs worth of internet goodness! Will I get more out with this uncapped service or is Telkom still the way to go? Say it ain't so..... Say it ain't... SO!

I have an IS 384 uncapped express account and on average get 80GB per month. :D

Thanks for your reply, its good to know you at least get your moneys worth but what about performance on apps such as skype etc? My current Telkom isp is quite good when it comes to voip,in SA standards of course!;)

all uncapped accounts are the same, but R800 is way cheaper :D
Oh and hopefully they got a low latency proxy for uncapped users to use for skype and gaming...then it'll be a perfect account ;)

Hmmmm uncapped is becoming cheaper.. Not bad.. :P

Still a bit pricey bit its gettin better.. Now with telkoms prices dropping (need to drop a bit more) Maby i can afford teh uncapzor

Wow! R800 incl vat is an excellent price!!

Well, I presume it includes vat because he is advertising to home users.

On our uncapped which is R 800 per month you could get 100gb without a problem

Unless my maths is wrong I dont think it would be easy with a realistic top speed of 38.4KB/s you're looking at a theoretical max of 95gb.

and that would be if you run your downloads 24/7 without interruption... hmmm... i find that hard to do.

Dont get fooled by this companys trickery. The prices are ex VAT. I beleive this practice is extremely unethical, why not just quote your full price? At least Telskum have not resorted to quoting their prices Ex Vat and claimed that are now cheaper.

I will stay away from any company that intentionaly tries to use deceptive and manipulative practices to lure customers into their web of deciet.

I think any prices mentioned on the forums should be vat inclusive.

R 912 inc VAT that means we are R 88 cheaper than anyone else. One question, if we can provide a cheaper service than anyone else, don't you as a user benefit ? so why complain ? Further to this, we will not include prices that are VAT inc, or state (ex VAT).

This statement is enough for me not to do business with them even at a cheaper price

Because of my statement ? I think you then have taken it the wrong way. My point was VAT inc or VAT ex, its still the cheapest in the market.

in the end an ods uncapped still uses the IS backbone

and they impose limits on your speed during office hours as per example torrents that have horrible speeds,

but gets better after hours and weekends.

then theres the issues with actually being able to use the line at its max at all times- we all know how it gets towards the very end and start of a month.
really seems that IS is getting over congestive.

also the roll over day thing - which is currently excluded on ods's and openweb services.

all in all uncapped in south africa is but a noodle from the pasta of what it should be

it is imposed with limits and least guarantees to your usage.

unless ODS can gaurentee 100% uptime, 100% throughput with 100% customer service its the same product as all the other isps that resells IS uncapped accounts

100GP once maybe, can you equal 3.3 gig constant a day forever or more ?

with the above in consideration when i had an uncapped line the most that i successfully did was about 68gig - and thats on a 512k
...

cheaper isn't always better otherwise we all would have always used the most cheapest products and services....

He had me fooled!

How pathetic! I'd rather go for a company that aren't deceiving their clients, and pay a few rand more.

I think i've read quite a few bad reports about the company he represents, I will look back in the archive.

Their prices generally aren't so best to check.

Hi there,

Just to set the record straight, R800 (ex VAT) is not, in fact the cheapest Uncapped ADSL option available. Our 384k Uncapped ADSL, which has been on the market for over a year now, is R765.00 (Ex. VAT) or R872.10 (Incl. VAT).
