Hey there!

I'm considering MWebs 4mb uncapped service. I've just read that Telkom will be uprading all those with 4mb lines to 8mb lines.

Once this happens what will happen to all those who are on Uncapped 4mb options? Would we automatically get bumped to 8mb lines (via MWeb), or will we be throttled and stuck on our 8mb lines at speeds of 4mb lines?

Lastly I have a 5GB Account at the moment. I would love to play Bad Company 2. One weekend of play KILLS my cap. I want to switch to Uncapped. Are the pings for those who are playing Bad Company 2 on Uncapped stable & worth getting?

Are there any other alternatives for me to play Bad Company 2 without killing my Telkom 5GB International & bandwidth?

Thanks & apologies if I've stuck this in the wrong section

As soon as the 8mb/10mb/12mb lines are available, MWEB will release a new package to accommodate those with that speed. Of course you will need to pay more than double the amount of the 4mb uncapped for it

dude how do you kill 5gigs in one weekend playing BC2? Something is not right there. Even using the higher estimated 60mb per hour you still need to play ALL weekend to do like 2 gigs

If I play from Friday 5pm till Saturday 7am, then from Saturday 11am till 6pm, then from Saturday 9pm till Sunday 3am, then from Sunday 9am till 5pm, then from Sunday 5pm till Monday 1am - I wind up losing roughly 2-3GB.

The other 2 or 3GBs that I have left are swallowed up with work stuff. I think something might be dodgey. I've tripped checked & changed Router Passwords, Account Passwods, SSID, WiFi password etc. & everything is fine.

Whoah a 12mb one! Now thats going to be lovely.

Thanks for the info!

Mweb has a really good ping to SGS and iGame. I play bad company 2 every day on the uncapped account and I get no lag at all.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 Ping

Are the pings for those who are playing Bad Company 2 on Uncapped stable & worth getting?

I am running on a 4 Mbps line.

I just played abit of Bad Company 2, I am getting pings of 111ms - 135ms, the pings are high but it is stable, you don't notice it. I play on SGS servers.

I jumped from Openweb Cap to Mweb Uncapped and I am getting the same ping.

Other games like Call of Duty 4, I am getting 41ms - 63ms

I think thats your problem there. No offence.

Currently the accounts are speed locked. So even when you get upgraded to 8/10/12Mbit line you will only have 4096k speeds on Mweb cause the account limits the speed 4096k.

Not confirmed although Telkom have been trialing those speeds. It's looks as though a 10mb line speed is the one 4mb users will most likely be upgraded to

Question is will MWEB create uncapped accounts between 512 and say 8096. Some people can already only sync at 2Mb would not want to pay double the price of a 4Mb account just because Telkom labels the product at 8096. Would the accounts be available as all inclusive. Some people may also not want to pay more the R1000 for an uncapped account.

Why should 8mbps cost twice as much as 4mbps?
Uncapped 384kbps costs about R200 whilst uncapped 4mbps costs around R500. So the speed is around 10 times faster but costs only 150% more.
Extrapolating, an 8mbps uncapped line should cost only 150%/5 = 30% more than a 4mbps uncapped line = R500x1.3 = R650

Nope that wont happen. It just shows how much 384 and 512 users are getting ripped off. I can promise you though that it wont be R150 more than the 4mb option

Afrihost already released their pricing for the 8mb uncapped, it was almost exactly double, R997. So MWeb should be a little more than that, seeing as they offer a better network. Basically around R1k.

This is where I'm thinking I'd rather just buy say 35GB of unshaped unthrottled bandwidth for just a bit more than 4mb uncapped and get 10Mb speeds. Win win

LOLz this was just for the first weekend when I got it. During the 2nd week I played for about 6 hours the entire weekend.

As for wha the GF says, she plays Aion & the occassional COD, so she doesnt batt an eyelid.

i am sorry if it has been posed already,

if we get bumped up to 8Mb/s can you run for eg. 2, 4 Mb/s mweb uncapped accounts on the line at the same time
