Uncapped Telkom LTE for R899

In a household of smartphones tablets netflix online gaming smart tvs youtube dstv showmax etc etc.

I have LTE and fibre plus a number of switches, extenders and APs.

Pretty normal usage. LTE for 2 users with streaming barely adequate.

Not everybody does streaming and even most that do won't hit 200GB on that. Your usage is still pretty much out of the norm.

I disagree on basis that the original uncapped was controversial exactly because the real cap of 300GB was too low?

Only way to manage the cap was to:
1. Switch to SD
2. Limit to usage by my wife for netflix, music and social media
3. I stream youtube music and social media with limited downloads less than a 1gb. In fact I mostly use the fibre to not impact on my wife's speeds.

Moment kids use it eg when fibre was down, speed takes a massive hit and of course usage. A mere 5 days of kids caused a usage warning from Telkom.

Thus most guys go for uncapped to avoid throttling making internet unusable.

Internet becomes unusable so imagine 2mbps! Usage with 5 users! Becomes nusable internet!

What original uncapped?

Your conclusion is wrong in that it's not most people trying to avoid throttling but most people that are impacted by throttling going for uncapped as they should. Most people are still not impacted by throttling.
 
The first uncapped LTE package at R799. I'm on the R599 package. Uncapped became suddenly 300GB.

Throttling to 2mbps is inadequate. My household of 5 is hardly heavy users. Have to run an uncapped 10mb fibre in addition to the LTE.

In fact I want to upgrade to 40mbps as speeds deteriorate when 3 kids stream. game, youtube etc. I tend to use their fibre wifi so I notice during peak usage. Downloads for me low but kids probably download games every month for xbox and ps4.

Surely this is an average user ito mybb?
 
Nope. For your average user once they get over the initial "lets download everything" phase 200-300GB is more than enough. Even those deemed high usage don't normally use more than 400-500GB. You aren't an average user plain and simple.

Agreed. Our family of 5 uses about 100 per month, mostly for streaming dstv and Netflix (combination of rain uncapped and mtn for peak period). At work our 6 staff use about 250gb (original telkom uncapped lte), much of which is video and media upload.

Yesterday we had the mibox streaming Netflix, 2 daughters watching YouTube on different devices and me watching rugby on the laptop, all streaming fine concurrently on the rain connection of about 15 mbps.

Btw just now wife on LTE netflix and me on youtube LTE. Videos sometimes pause for download. Suppose could be youtube issue since her netflix plays smoothly but suspect its the speeds due to congestion. So 2mbps in real life will be way slower.

Although quite good speeds still, better than my 10mb fibre line, it has dropped from original speeds.

Ok, thanks, got a prepaid SIM and getting good speeds, and generally decent playability on overseas servers.
