Uncapped, unshapped Iburst Cost?

Uncapped, Unshaped 1Mbps wireless..... hmmmm.... R500/mo

Although i wouldn't immediately move to a provider who provides uncapped services cos everyone will be raping the connection for all its worth, what with all those Spongebob episodes out there.. just look at MyWireless (bless them). For the current capped, shaped iBurst service I wouldn't pay more than R350 unfortunately but the same goes for ADSL and anything else available at the moment.. one should look to offering services comparable in price to first world countries instead of trying to undercut the (limited) competition by tiny bits. The sooner a price war starts the better.. uncapped - not such a good idea though, its a necessary evil.

If you have spongebob episodes, im interested

It would be a good start - if we do pay what first world countries pay.. Just imagine how many ppl can afford the internet then, R250 for a 512k connection with 3GB cap - school kids can afford that with their pocket money.. small business will do research online and establish more contacts, you name it.. but then again, if Telkom does away with the ADSL line rental then iBurst, Sentech and everyone else is sitting with a huge problem.

Thats exactly my arguement, if your country has 40 million people in it, and lets assume 50 percent is out of work or can't afford internet or whatever, you have a 20 million market if you can make your connections affordable.

So instead of having 50000 ADSL users paying 1049(599+90+350) for an ADSL line, you could have 1000000 users paying 250(100+150). Which would be more profitable?

1000000*250 = 250,000,000
50000*1049 = 52,450,000

1 million users of course! And seeing as that there is an estimated 1 million users (as far as I know, MaD might know the figures) internet users in South Africa, if you can offer broadbrand at that price, you'll rake in the cash!

Another crazy rambling from ic...

ScrnScrm makes some verrry relevant points there, and Uncapped via Satelite (i.e. higher that SAT3/SAFE latency) is something forumites need to comment on, i.e. if you got Uncapped International via iBurst, would you care whether it was via Satelite, and here's a whatif - have an option in the WBS iBurst CRM thing to allow switching from a Satelite circuit to a SAT3/SAFE circuit on reconnect if you sometimes need much lower latency & need to switch between high & low latency...<added>or even better be able to separately buy bandwidth on Satelite & SAt3/SAFE</added>.

The point is we need to figure out what we would like, and then ask for it, now I would think that if we want WBS to take us seriously here, we need to oranise our thoughts into a poll - so anyone can see at a glance exactly what it is that we do want (note: not what we think is or is not possible for WBS to supply/provide, so comparative International Pricing should IMO be included).

I know some iBursters don't think a poll on this would be useful as reflected in a few of this thread's posts, what does everyone else think?

How little bandwidth is available to WBS? Telkom uses caps but surely they have enough bandwidth to do without it.

The point made earlier about 1mil users as opposed to 50k: Didnt the movie houses do the same thing recently? Movies at R14 instead of R30+ drew more than double the customers resulting in more profit than they had previously. So, erm, is the reason nobody is offering decent priced uncapped service because they do not have the bandwidth to handle too many users? Or are they affraid to charge a fair price that might result in them NOT bleeding us dry?

I know why Telkom charges so bloody much: Whatever other countries charge we must charge times 3, cause we are in a 3rd world country. Although its mostly more than times 3...

Uncapped, unshaped iBurst cost? Charge us R600 and watch the chaos. I think most ADSL suckers will move accross as well.

what would I pay for uncapped 1 mb?

ok lets do the maths not withstanding the fact that telkom is the worlds most expensive communications provider, a fact proven by hellkom.co.za

I would pay comparatively to what the rest of the world are paying

The swedes are paying $100 for 100 megabit

the americans are paying $30 for 6 Mb cable
6mb/5 =1Mb
so $30/5 = $6

$6 X R5.somechange lets make it R6
so R36 ?

I'd pay triple that cos I'm fair.

I would pay R600-R700 for uncapped internet. Just out of curiousity do we have stats for the percentage of IBurst users who actually reach 1mb/s on a regular basis?

Kind of doubt it. A lot of users are complaining about "sentech-speeds" on their iBurst service. Think i will have to stick with dial up forever

telkom don't charge so much cuz we're a 3rd world country, they charge so much because they need to make a profit on the sat3 and safe lines before they have a competitor

I think its high time that SA consumers remove their blinkers and start dictating what they will pay for a service. We all just accept high charges because of the legacy of Telkom's pricing. Sad.

About 10 years ago, the telecomms company in Australia had a price hike.
within 2 weeks nearly 2 thirds of their base had cancelled their telephones. not even 3 months later the prices were down lower than they were prior to the price hike.

Would South Africans do that? noooooooo.......

Telkom, Belongs to goverment we must just face the fact but if this selling of SAT3 line comes right then we might see change in prices. Telkom is just free money for them and the Directors Poket. If the director makes maybe +- R20 million a year.
