I just don't get it if 50000 companies want to lay a fiber cable let them for crying out loud! All they are going to do is boost the economy and provide what this bandwidth starved country needs. These nimwits in government and their constant meddling are going to doom this country.

It amounts to nothing more than ensuring that the brutha's, sista's and comrades get in on the act to rip us all off, instead of allowing competition to thrive and inturn drive down the prices.

No matter what the government says, it boils down to that and nothing else.

I am sorry for my bad language but you Shope you are a dumb f**k.
Your total ingnorance of the reality on the planet earth is a affront to every teacher who ever tried to teach you to use your brain and not just feed us the same old stale vomit!!!

Little old South Africa is going to hurt the world by telling them what they may and may not do. You just told the WORLD BANK to bugger of and take all their investments to another African country who wants all the millions of dollars they have to invest. :(

South African companies could use their dominance to compete unfairly in other countries. We have a responsibility as the government to ensure there is fair competition. We are not willing to look at something that is clearly discriminatory. We couldn’t rest with a clear conscience.”

If they can, they do you dumb@ss. Just think De Beers, Anglo and SAB. Telskum uses their unethical dominance condoned by government to compete unfairly in our own coutry so there's already a precedent set you poephol.

F@%k! How do these idiots manage to retain their jobs?

“We have many problems with it. The fact that you work for the World Bank makes you think you know what’s good for Africa even when you don’t live in Africa. I find that quite insulting.”

What does she know about Africa?? We are stuck here in our little hell hole with basically no internet connectivity. If she wants to say that she is looking out for the best interests for Africa, "da gavamint" should rather be looking across the border and at least slap Robert Mugabe on his wrist and say: " No no Robbie, you have been a bad boy."

BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

They rather say nothing and turn a blind eye.

If they that is what they do regarding a humanitarian issue and they are so serious about telecommunication, there are some serious ethical issues at the highest level of the goverment.

“South African companies could use their dominance to compete unfairly in other countries."

Not to go into the details about Nepad and everything but isn't it your JOB to ensure South Africans and South African business get the best support available.
Your first priority should always be your own citizens not some dumb hick in the middle of Africa who would rather shoot his neighbor for saying something he doesn't agree with.

If you set the bar at a low level, a low level service is what you will get. You only stay viable in the world today if you keep on innovating and expanding. Miss Caveman.

Great, is this guy even for real? Increase competition by stifling it. This must be the most idiotic thing our government has ever said. No wonder we don't have any real competition is any sector. Will probably say that Neotel should not get landing right on SAT-3 as that will "impede" competition.

Someone wrote in to the Argus the other day, saying that the ANC is like a cult. All that matters is obedience and discipline within the party.

Incompetence doesn't get u fired, but lack of discipline will...

Case in point being our Health Minister vs the Deputy Health Minister!

That is a understatement! The gov is two faced, they say Telkom must lower prices(but they own just about half) other hand they do stupid ... well

A part of me really hopes that 2010 is a big stuff up just to see who will point fingers at who for the failure.

2010 will come around, it will be a big disaster. The ANC will blame Apartheid and the whites as usual.

I've lost all hope in this country. As beautiful as it is, South Africa is a political disaster.
