Undersea cables to ease capacity

in time could be 10years , 20years even 50years but yeah the prices will drop because there competition for telkom now

Man, Japan is the place to be :D. But with the size of their country being so limited getting fibre out wasn't such a problem.

On the mobile front all I can say is: bring on 4G and 5G :). But obviously Telkom would have to be out of the picture by then ;).

In the area of mobile data connectivity, over the next five year next generation 4G mobile technology will offer speeds of 100Mbps and 5G is expected to push this up to 1 gigabit per second.

Although you will probably need to be 20 meters away from the tower to get speeds like this.

I just wish there was more local content and that it was cheaper to host locally. That would take some of the pressure off the international cable systems and allow me to spent R10 a gig!! Everyone wins...

And in other news...

I'm be quite honest, I'm growing very tired of the same stories just rewritten and spewed out. I'm getting to the stage where I just read the title of the article and move.

“In time, we will see 100Mbps speeds to the home over fibre.”

yes yes in time....like someone else said 1 2 5 10 20 years? talk is cheap, but unfortunately it's telkoms game

Can't see the benefit of greater speed when we still have limited capacity. It just means you use up your available bandwidth faster.
