Unimpressed, returning product

Those stats may be within their advertised range but in terms of effective speed on a normal day at peek time I still get around 100 - 150 KB/sec transfer rate from iBurst and thus far I have only been getting around 30 - 40 from neotel.

There have been many complaints about iBurst, but they are significantly more reliable than neotel. My iBurst modem simply worked from day one and has ever since. The neotel device has given nothing but trouble ever since I received it. The connection drops often and the great driver for Windows doesn't always reconnect. Every hour or so I have to make some kind of plan to get the thing working again. The mean time to failure has consistently been less than 2 hours. That is disgusting, some people may have had a good experience with neotel so far, but mine has been disgusting.

And don't even get me started on their call center staff.

Maybe in the future they will get their act together, but for the moment I would advise people to save their money and stay with their current service provider, otherwise they are going to have this useless device sitting at home that they had to buy outright when they canceled their contract.

Ouch! I forgot that you had to buy the device if you cancel the contract. Looks like you have been a victim of their "best of both worlds" contract. I feel for you man! :(

Neotel is still immature in their product line, will need to wait a while

Though they did say the average would be between 300kbs to 700kb which is slower than what ur getting.

Iburst on the other hand would be better in certain areas since many of their customers left them, but there by my parent's area it tops out at 304kbs (38Kbs).

Waiting for neotel to get to their area...

I'm currently on iburst (just outside central PTA) and i never see anything over 50KB/s during the day. At night only past midnight do I get anywhere near 100KB/s +

I'm off to Neotel as of next week and i'm more than willing to sit through their "teething problems" just like i did with Iburst at the very beginning. People easily forget the erratic first year and a half (maybe more) that Iburst battled with delivering decent and consistent speeds, the disconnects, the base stations that went down almost weekly.

To some users depending on the area Iburst is perfect for them, for others it's not.

I've had a consistent 6GB pm on my 3GB package, and then I do a lot of local uploads at the end of the month on the local only. I wouldn't really know what to do with a higher cap, expect give it away of course :p

Uploads on Neotel are K@k. I'm quite content with my Neotel, but trying to send holiday pics to family is a real pain when uploading at 6kB/s.

Secondly, how does being a recent subscriber to these forums suddenly invalidate my complaints? If the product does not work as advertised I have every right to complain, the stats clearly vindicate my case. Their technician came by last week, all he did was run the speed test and he achieved the exact same results. The signal strength shows 4 bars on the phone, the technician said this is very good. He then left without doing anything else saying he will escalate the problem.

What did you expect the Technician to do? Work miracles? He said he would escalate the problem and I'm sure he reported it. Stop acting like a spoiled brat and be grateful for the amazing speeds your receiving.

You knew that you would be the guinea pig when you signed up with a brand new service that was just getting itself off the ground. Rome wasn't built in a day... right? Next time do what the rest of us do and wait until proper benchmarks had been released.

I for one thought the point of these forums was to share experience for others to see. I post my “complaints/compliments” so others can decide whether they want to purchase the product or not or to gage whether the product will meet their expectations.

I.M.O the best form of benchmark, while maybe not the “proper benchmark” you are referring to, is the one that comes from users like us (guinea pigs). While I agree that benguela may be jumping the gun a little by cancelling, his complaints are definitely most welcome.

I don’t see how being unhappy with a product you purchased makes you a spoilt brat, if you were unhappy with your computers performance I am sure you would complain about it.

For other potential customers with the same expectations; benguela’s complaints will be invaluable.

Hi interested in those speed tests as i'm looking at Neotel
May i ask what does the "ping" mean

May i ask what does the "ping" mean

I ping is the opposite of a Pong, without it we would never had the game called Table Tennis and China would have received 8 less medals in the Olympics, incidentally Pong was the name of one of the first arcade games that gave rise to the arcade, console and pc gaming industry.

have you tried to google what a ping is!
