I'm completely unimpressed with Neotel, I have had the product for a week now, the connection frequently drops, the speeds are about half of that of iburst. I supposedly have "excellent" coverage in my area.

I sent them an email to [email protected] asking them to collect their phone and refund me, I get the following automatic reply:

"This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Delivery to the following recipients failed.

[email protected]"

This is the worst experience I have had from any provider.

Have you tried picking up the phone and giving them a call?

Ok, first up, here's the stats from my latest speed test:

Download: 990 kb/s
Upload: 93 kb/s
Ping: 642ms

That is absolutely terrible. I'm getting much better consistent performance from iBurst. Neotel have had a week to fix it with no improvement.

Secondly, how does being a recent subscriber to these forums suddenly invalidate my complaints? If the product does not work as advertised I have every right to complain, the stats clearly vindicate my case. Their technician came by last week, all he did was run the speed test and he achieved the exact same results. The signal strength shows 4 bars on the phone, the technician said this is very good. He then left without doing anything else saying he will escalate the problem.

So basically I have a 1Mb+ connection to their tower and then slightly better than GPRS to anything beyond.

And finally, I don't just use email. I have phoned them many times. Either form of communication has not resulted in an improved quality of service.

Have to agree that you have a right to complain, those speeds are not even close to what's been promised. Did the technician do a test on another device just to make sure that your device is not screwed.
I get just 3 bars but my download speed is on average around 130Kbs/s

He didn't have another device to test with. Damn, that could be it. All he did was test my device with his own laptop.

On what planet? As a recovering victim of iBurst, I can only say that this statement alone loses you all credibility. iBurst's protocol doesn't transmit at a peak speed of greater than 1 Mbps (assuming no other traffic, no overheads etc etc). You can't seriously expect us to believe that you get a consistent 990 kbps from iBurst.

iBurst's maximum IS 1mb/s so if your connection is achieving that (which your speed tests say it almost is) then by no means is iBurst better. Additionally the *majority* of iBurst subscribers don't see more than 40kBs downloads during the daytime due to an overloaded network.

I'll let the stats speak for themselves.

I ran 3 tests at the same time, one computer connected to iBurst and the other to Neotel.

The results were as follows:

Test 1:

Iburst Download: 1024 Neotel Download: 564
Iburst Upload: 70 Neotel Upload: 28

Test 2:

Iburst Download: 1028 Neotel Download: 929
Iburst Upload: 73 Neotel Upload: 76

Test 3:

Iburst Download: 956 Neotel Download: 801
Iburst Upload: 63 Neotel Upload: 78

IBurst advertises 1 Mbps and Neotel advertises 2.4 Mbps, will the pro-neotel faithful please explain why I am not getting 2.4x faster speeds with Neotel vs iBurst?

Thats all within what they advertised. They say "upto" 2.4 mbits per sec but with an average of 700kbits per sec and that's pretty much what you getting. So sorr for you if you didn't read their statements properly.

What worries me is the swings in speed that seem to happen on the Neotel network judging from the speed tests above. I hate it when the speeds go up and down and up and down...
