Hi Guys

I am with Uninet in Cape Town on a 256K connection and I am not really getting the speeds that I am expecting. BT averages about 10KB/s.

Was wondering if there are any other ppl in the forum who is with UniNet and how your speeds are. Especially the Knysna folks, how are you finding it.

As I said I am on the 256K package connecting to the Bottelary tower.

Cheers

Not being funny but you should probably be grateful as most WISP's block P2P. If browsing and gaming is fine then that means they are just putting torrents on the bottom of the priority list.

The only WISP option I know with good P2P speeds is www.wo.co.za on their Velocity, but that is capped. So you need to decide wether you want to chug along or pay per Gig.

Yeah I realise that, I am just being curious as to what other users are getting, and what their experience has been thus far with Uninet. Believe me it took me some fighting with the Uninet helpdesk to even get torrent downloads going at this speed :(

Also at R 799pm for a 256k connection it is not the cheapest around, but as you pointed out it is not capped.

I have a 128Kb connection with UniNet and I am very, very happy with my speeds. On average, I get 14KB HTTP downloads. In fact, recently my torrents haven't been too bad either on weekends...about 10KB, which I think is good.

I have just compared them to ADSL now, though. If I do the same amount of traffic on a 192Kb ADSL line, ADSL will be cheaper. But I still won't change....not as yet, anyway......loyalty and alll. Maybe Uninet will reward for being with them for the last 2 years :-)

Can you guys give any info regarding your settings and torrent client info.
My speeds with Uninet (256k package) don't seem to work too great.
thankx

wabbit, i think uninet punish their high-end clients more than they should. forget p2p, even on http, i'm lucky to get around 3-5k/s during the day! but my friend who has a 128k connection can get 14-16k/s downloading from the same site! i don't see why those who pay more should get less, but that seems to be their reasoning - the bigger the package, the more you get shaped/screwed/whatever

You guys must stop bitchin about slow speeds on wisp packages, its a wisp bloody hell. You share a connection with 20 other people on those uncapped accounts. Logo if i where u i'd get adsl, allot cheaper and faster for faster speeds. And just get yourself a local account for downloads and your sorted.
