'Union buildings need new name'

We don't want to debate it.

No, the blacks didn't have civil rights.

Did the Brits and Boere make a contribution to this land?

Must everything that they contributed be discarded for one reason that the blacks had no civil rights?

I have asked so often. What have the blacks contributed except hordes and hordes of blacks?

All of a sudden "democracy" is the word that is on every black's lips.

Never, in all history, untill the sixties in Botswana, was there ever a democracy in Africa. The whiteman brought it here. And because democracy and the wealth of the whiteman suits the blacks they love it.

What civil rights did a warrior of Shaka have? How much do the citizens of Darfur care about civil rights? Sometimes a plate of food is more worth than all the rights in the world. Other times when your belly is full it is easier to strike and demand civil rights.

Tibby, where in Africa are blacks better off than in this country. Have you blacks managed it all on your own? Now then, why do you wan't to pretend that the whites were never here? Pretend they didn't built a possitive legasy.

Why, indeed to you even want to raise the issue?

Your signature says it all

This guy thinks Mugabe did a great job, and want's Zuma as our next president. He's a prime sample of why working with dangerous chemicals while you're pregnant is a bad idea.

What disturbs me more is that certain forumites whom I have thought were reasonably intelligent agrees with him! Renaming a building/airport/town/tunnel/bridge/molehill/province etc etc won't change the past. It's what we do now to change the future that counts! Keep the symbols of the past, keep their names. It will serve as a sign not to revert back to how things were. There are enough space and need in SA for new developments to name after struggle heroes a few times over!

However, it seems to me the ANC is hell bent on recreating a divided South Africa where only one group (distinguished by color) may prosper and have space in the sun......

I get it , Union can be equated to the word united, and with blacks chasing us out of this place, the name of the building just dont fit.
Call it CTFWOH (chase the friggin whitey outta here) building

ANCYL call for union buildings name change

The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) this weekend called for the Union Buildings in Pretoria to be renamed after an anti-apartheid activist, according to a report in a local newspaper.

Fikile Mbalula, the youth league president, was addressing supporters in Klerksdorp along with Jacob Zuma, the party's deputy president, yesterday.

"Names such as this (the Union Buildings) mean absolutely nothing to most South Africans and are a symbol of oppression." the Afrikaans daily quoted him saying.

He said the name-changing process formed part of the youth's struggle, even if it meant that every town and street named after people representing apartheid needed to be changed. - Sapa

If it's things like the names of buildings that the ANCYL finds offensive, I'd hate to think what they find extremely offensive. Why can't they worry about more important matters?
