Universal cell phone charger

These cables come with most new gadgets.

My HTC came with a really small plug that is a 2prong to USB port. It'll charge any phone that uses a USB cable- mini or micro, as long as you have the correct cable. Pretty cool.

I was thinking of that design. That is probably the most awesome plug design I've seen. We need a SA 3pin version of that...

They will most probably create a NEW type of socket... Just to make all previous chargers null and void, so we have to ALL buy the new socket chargers for the new phones... Just to rape the consumer for one last time...

Well it's pretty neat, I wouldn't call it awesome, it's just slightly smaller plug that folds away. What that article neglected to mention is that you can't use it for most electronics, especially cellphones, because it's too small to fit a transformer etc in. That's what makes current chargers so big in the first place. They'd have to move it back further up the cable, and they can do that with a normal SA or Euro plug anyways if they wanted to.

What I like about it is that first it's "backwards compatible" by folding it out but also mutliplugs suddenly become much much smaller. I'm an aquarist and aquariums generally end up needing quite a few multiplugs. In addition to that I have the usual pcs/tvs/laptops/phones/media player/console etc in my place and so I'm a fan of anything that will help neaten things up a bit.

Has here actually bothered to read up on the standard? You would have seen that the standard selected by the European Union is micro USB.

Windows Phone 7 devices, Android devices and some Nokia devices already use micro USB and I'm sure some other phones use them already as well.

So, it sounds like most of you already have phones and chargers that adhere to this standard.

The exception to this rule is Apple, of course. As they insist on using their proprietary 30 pin connector. Its not all bad though, they have to include an adapter from micro USB to 30 pin. So you'll still be able to use your micro USB charger.

I hope that clears things up.
