Unknown Device Compaq NC8230

um.... nc8230 is the model number of the Compaq notebook! Is that the device you are seeing or is there a device on your nc8230 notebook that you cannot identify?

NC 8230 laptop, and in Device manager it says unknown device. I have tried all the drivers I can download or think of nothing.

In device Manager, right click on the unidentified device and choose "Properties"

click on the Diagnostics Tab and look under the Hardware ID section...

copy that long string here for us so we can ID it for you.

There is no Diagnostics tab, but under Details Tab and Harware ID is this

It's some security driver. I had the same issue with my 8240, but I'm afraid I can't remember which driver it was. In Fact I remember downloading the driver from the 6000 series page and not the 8000 series. Odd one that.

it looks like some kind of security device related to the Intel Chipset.

I would say if it is not bugging you and everything else is working fine... then ignore it.

Tried the TPM thing and was not that.
