Got a call from someone who thought I could help them on this, but I personally know nothing about it. The phone was bought in Mozambique and it can't be used here on our SA networks (from what I gathered on Google). Is it even possible to get around this issue on this particular phone?

(I probably should have used the search first...)

Depends - is it locked to their networks or does it operate on a different band?

I have no idea. But I think just locked to their networks. Is jailbreaking this phone possible?

I'm having the exact same issue with my girlfriends iPhone that her brother gave her. The phone is locked to Vodaphone Australia but because it was a warranty replacement, it doesn't seem to be in Vodaphone's system.

I've gone the whole jailbreaking route and to be honest, if you can avoid it stay away... Jailbreaking any phone from the 3GS (new boot rom) and up is a nightmare, especially when it comes to the latest iOS versions.

I honestly dont know wtf is wrong with people that still jaibreak, they must be sadomasochists. If you can, try to contact the network which it is locked to and have them do a network unlock.

If not, do a lot of research before you jailbreak.

Some tips:

Make sure that you have SSHH blobs for whatever OS version you wanna jailbreak to (stay away from iOS 6 as it cannot be untethered and its difficult to downgrade to iOS 5).
Make sure that the iOS version you want to to jailbreak can be untethered and that it can indeed be hacktivated (network unlocked).

Good luck.

What about IMEI unlock???

I just unlock an iPhone4 locked to AT&T (USA) the other day using http://www.iphonefactoryunlockers.com/

It took around 12 hours and I got the email back saying that it was unlocked. No jailbreaking required. And is running iOS 6.0.1.

I tested with MTN & vodacom sim cards and is working 100%.

Another websites that are doing IMEI unlocks are http://cellular-medic.com and http://myimeiunlock.com/

There might be a couple more as well if you google "IMEI unlock". Also it seems that the IMEI unlocks also works for iphones 3G and 3GS.

Better contact them and check if your Mozambican iPhone can be unlocked.

I'm also in the process of getting my 4s unlocked using www.officialiphoneunlock.co.uk mine is locked to AT&T USA and they said it should take around 6 hours, I did it earlyer today so still waiting but doubt whether it will be done before the weekend. I'm not a expert but from what I gathered from these unlock services is that it all depends on the relationship (whether people on the in side or legit connections) the unlock service has at a spesific network. The people I'm using claims 6 hours for AT&T but up to 14 days for some other networks. Just watch out, a lot of these sites run scams and take your money without doing anything, from what I read online, I'm pritty sure the one I'm using now is not a scam but will let you know once mine is unlocked. Especially watch out for services on ebay and those costing under $10

Forgot to say, though JB is a option it's not a permanent solution, the IMEI unlocks costs some money but it is a permanent factory unlock. You can first try to contact the network in Moz where the phone is locked to, I doubt it but but if you're lucky they might unlock it for you especially if the person still has a contract or something with them.

Got a email this morning from www.officialiphoneunlock.co.uk saying my phone is unlocked so I can recommend them. They promissed aprox 6 hours, my verification was completed yesterday morning about 11 AM, I then thought it will only be monday because they don't do processing over weekends, but got the mail now and completed the unlock. Note that I don't have a micro sim to test it on Vodacom yet, but everyware I c checked it said it's unlocked.

I have "factory unlocked" three iphones in the last weeks through www.cellular-medic.com for 25 USD each (R225 aprox).

One iPhone 4 and two 3GS. Only the 3GS had a "hiccup" as it was previously jailbroken and with IPAD baseband. So I had to downgrade the baseband back to a standard iPhone baseband. After that, everything worked 100%.

Phone AT&T and they will unlock it if the contract it was on was paid off in full before the upgrade or cancellation

Got a 3Gs on AT&T that i'm still trying to unlock. Just use it as an alarm clock. Got it from someone when he broke the jailbreak/unlock when doing a software update by mistake.

Tried to do the unlock via their website, but each time I get a reply asking for an account number.

Any ideas how to get around this? Or would your uncle mind helping me out as well?

I phoned in and told them I lived in South Africa. They even accepted my eBay receipt as proof of purchase... This was back in 2011 though
