Unpaid E Tolls

Getting bills for a car I sold in 2013, even before e-tolls became operational. All already used as blitz for the braai.

I discreetly mark all the bills I receive and have them re-mailed. I have yet to receive the same bill twice.

I had an etag on my car for a few month last year.

The beeping got very annoying so I took it off the windscreen - haven't paid a cent since last October.
It is for you that SANRAL will come first, if they do. It is unfortunate but you have contractually agreed to pay by fitting an e-Tag.

I agree, same applies to those who initially got a groot skrik and started paying and then stopped...

One for my wife's car, which according to their photo is a silver A class Mercedes... funny thing is she drives a red Fiat :) and avoids highways.

Received one for an old Toyota Corolla. Problem was that the photo was of a MAC truck with a completely different registration number. I don't trust their data at all.

Is anyone aware of a way to see how much you owe in etolls?

I haven't paid a cent since it went live so I would like to know how much I have racked up since it went live.

Just in case the whole 60% is approved and I have to pay the 40% remainder of the bill...

This.

My defense if Sanral ever has me in court will start with legal precedent in the baby Zuma case, Sanral with all their billion rand system couldn't confirm the Zuma son's whereabouts during the time of his accident. If their data isn't accurate enough to rely on in a high-profile case, how can I therefore trust them to bill me accurately?

I have my own proof that their data is dodgy, and then you have the above case. Let them take me to court, I want to see a high-definition image of my vehicle for each time they claim I drove under a gantry.

However, if they are only going to manage to link Etolls to licensing in 18 months or more, the first case will probably only get to court in 2019/2020, if at all. I really am not worried about SANRAL and their Etolls at this stage.

Last bill I opened was around R13k.

They can't change the constitution.

And you have to renew your license, lest you lose your insurance. However, you can pay the license fees without getting the disc. At most you'll get a fine for not displaying the disc, but you keep your insurance.

Also, the Transport department said last night they won't be criminalising the non-payment of eTolls, so w/e.

They could change the constitution with their majority (they've done it before), but I don't expect it to happen anytime soon. When they finally do they will probably lose Gauteng and the system will be scrapped. In the meantime, keep on truckin!

Yep, am patiently waiting for that to happen. Once it does, suggest they turn the gantry into billboards, can make some cash from that. Maybe they could use the existing cameras for speed enforcement etc.?. A much better use for them than this Etoll shyte.

They don't have anywhere close to the majority necessary and are unlikely to have it again. And if we reach a stage where they subvert and ignore the constitution to that extent eTolls will be the least of our worries. :p

system is broken, they know it, and we know it,
at this stage I think they just fishing, hoping to get people to bite,

nobody interested,
for once people of GP stood together and said "WE WONT PAY FOR A ROAD THAT'S EXIST BEFORE"

stay strong GP, drive with no disk, tsotsis gonna start selling fake disks at robots/petrol stations;
or take a photo of yours and give you one with the details changed, I mean its doable no holograms on it.......

I think the next step they gonna try do is changing all GP plates, making them with a hologram/RFID embedded,
then they can sit at their KFC and get a beep every-time somebody didnt pay etolls/didnt renew licence.
thats the next step, but at the moment they just trying desperately to salvage the system any way they can......

If I remember correctly, receive invoices beginning of this year, but only showed gantry entries until October 2014. Nothing since.

The system is borked anyway, was away for along weekend in March last year, 200kms from any gantry, but the invoice I eventually showed 2-3 for that period. That makes me distrust EVERY SINGLE gantry entry they send me.

Still haven't paid, and waiting for summons. Or if they get it right, refuse to issue my license disc. Then will have to risk being fined for not displaying it.

This is my issue though. Their number plate reading system is simply not accurate at all. I recently received an invoice with a picture attached and you can clearly see the number plate in the photo is not the same as my cars number plate. Now how many other errors are there..? The fact that this is such a regular occurrence should frankly invalidate everything unless it can be verified with photos of every Gantry passed.

I remember last year with the whole Zuma's son taxi accident incident where the court did want to use the info from the gantries due to inaccuracies (or something like that).
What is the supposed accuracy of the cameras supposed to be in any case?

Who cares about the accuracy of the system? Even if it were spot on and sent me a bill with a high def pic of my car on with GPS coordinates to prove I was there that cannot be refuted. I still wont pay.

I have outstanding traffic fines from 2009, those still dont pop-up whenever I renew my licence disc ( i renewed yesterday)... So e-troll still has a long way to go.
