unrestricted apn?again

Anyone cn confirm if 8ta is currently running apn as unrestricted or not?saw couple conflicting posts?need to use for business,need to open up some ports.

Bumpity. I'm also interested to know.

Cell C has said they won't be able to offer an unrestricted APN until next year, so I'll probably switch to 8ta if theirs is.

The program Port Detective is user friendly and can be used to check. Just make sure to disable any software firewalls such as the Windows one or those provided with some anti-virus programs before you run the test.
 
i have 8ta and used port detective selected all ports to test. Port 25 is Blocked SMTP Protocol. all other ports are open

I've also just tested with Port Detective and found that ALL the default TCP ports that it tests for are open. I then specifically tested 25, 80, 443 and 987 and found them to be open as well. That's on the default "internet" APN; I didn't have to apply for access or anything.

So is it 100% confirmed ? I am interested in getting two 10 gig contracts from 8ta for my business and at home so I can access my ip cameras which mainly use port 80 but I need to be absolute certain? I phone technical department the had no idea what I was talking about.
 
I am port forwarding on Port 443 & 5060 with 8ta (no problems), as far as I can tell 8ta 3G is the same as a Telkom SAIX ADSL account...

Only found port 25 to be blocked on 8ta 3G as well as SAIX ADSL....

So I don't see the need for a unrestricted APN if it already seems to be open.

I have been able to connect to my applications running on port 80, 443 and RDP inside my firewall for the last 8 months or so with no problem. It can also pull mail from Google Apps no problem so all good.

Just remember that the upstream bandwidth is often far lower that the download bandwidth and if there is a lot of activity on the connection or if you have a slow connection or a connection with fluctuating speeds it can be frustratingly slow. I have been using a couple of open source firewalls like IPFire and Untangle to manage the connections and I have recently got the OpenVPN stuff working for secure connections from outside and it works perfectly.

I suggest testing it first and also make sure your usage will fall into your package otherwise ADSL will be cheaper. I have found that the monthly subscription plus two 2 + 1GB top ups just about equals a 1MB uncapped ADSL account.
