Unshaped ADSL bandwidth after hours

Axxess semi shaped accounts use IS fibre not satellite.

Why is this so hard for people to understand?

Don't care if it is fibre or not. I have nothing against IS. Just the fact that my ping has increased with atleast 20miliseconds. So I am going back to SAIX

The internet performance on both my basic 2GB capped account and my pre-paid semi-shaped account is abysmal. I changed the DNS settings as recommended in the SMS I received from them, but it makes no difference.

If it doesn't improve, I'm changing back to SAIX and reconsidering my options.

OK, so I logged a ticket and changed back to SAIX (done in about 10 minutes), and everything's back to normal again. It seems as if the IS fibre network is nowhere nearly as good as SAIX.

I bought a couple of gigs and I am happy with it so far. I normally buy shaped gigs from WA, however this is cheaper, it fits my usage pattern and for streaming video it is slightly faster.

I think offering semi-shaped accounts was a good move. Moving people who bought SAIX onto this - maybe not so smart.

My download speed improved alot since the swicthing took place.

File download speeds are better in many cases, but the latency is much longer than SAIX. Not good for fast browsing.

I use IS Semi-Shaped bandwidth at home at the moment, its pretty good but I've had more downtime with IS than I've had on SAIX. I play WoW with it, and while its a little slower (around 50ms slower), it is do-able and a LOT cheaper than the equivalent SAIX option.

My work used Axxess SAIX bandwidth, and while the swap to IS semi-shaped isn't too much of a problem, the way it was handled is terrible. If it wasn't for this thread, I wouldn't have had a CLUE as to what had happened last week and why I suddenly got phone calls from the office wanting me to resolve the internet issues *NOW*. (It just happened that all 3 people who could resolve the issues were out of the office)

Oddly enough I've had a few people comment on how responsive certain downloads have been since the upgrade, so people at work have noticed an improvement.

I probably would have opted ot move if they had informed me about it and while I appreciate Axxess' initiative in moving everyone to IS - the fact that they didn't think it was something worthy of communicating to their users is unacceptable.

I am however impressed that when it had gone wrong, they sent out a bulk sms informing people of how to fix the issue. That alone saved me an AGE of holding for the call centre.

[Edit:]
Oh yeah, I'm also really glad not to be using SAIX's stupid "transparent proxy" that seems to interfere with certain forum's login procedures. (Basically they seem to change the IP address that they show to the site, and so if the site links my login cookie to an IP address, then I keep getting logged out because SAIX keeps showing them that I'm coming from a different IP - the easy resolve is to force your browser to use SAIX's proxy, but that's not always ideal)
