UP closes campus after student clashes

Yeah the anti white slogans popping up all over campus really tells you about the character of this movement. :D It seems the international media has also conveniently floated away from reporting on it and if they do they totally don't mention any of the hate speech spewed by the black student leaders...

Sure blame the white people for all your troubles, take their jobs, take their land if you want but don't dare touch Afrikaans as a language.

Where's Willie Wallace with his Blue Bulls facepaint when you need him?

Someone mentioned yesterday that no lectures were in Afrikaans at Tuks. How true is that?
And if it is true wtf is the EFF doing?
Or are they asking all afrikaans people to only speak in english/>whatever language<

Again I'm asking why are there no new Universities built in the last 20 years? The problem isn't afrikaans and these dom dig and stupid idiots again are protesting at the wrong place. Go burn Nkandla/ Lootfreely house. They used the money for your universities on prada shoes.

Why does it matter that your black colleagues went there?

Why doesn't it matter. She said that black people preferred it even thought there was afrikaans because there weren't any protests.

Should we type slower?

Lectures are given in Afrikaans...

As well as English...

ok. Someone just mentioned it yesterday didn't know how to confirm this.
Tx.

It still doesn't change the fact that the EFF is just trying to win votes by giving hooligans ammunition.
IT's not afrikaans's fault you do not have a university it is the government your parents voted for.

I went there is the 80s. Even though it was an Afrikaans University with lectures in Afrikaans in those days, I found it very welcoming to English speakers. All my textbooks were in English and I wrote my exams in English, no problem.

Even though Afrikaans is my 1st language, I attended many lectures in English due to the different languages the handbooks were in (and what subject it was).

Point is, even if a lecture is in your mother-tongue, you need to be able to adapt. Whats next, are they going to burn all non Zulu textbooks?

So the EFF wants education in colonialist English? :wtf:

No, this is just the stepping stone. If UP buckles here, english will follow too. When browsing twits yesterday, one 'protester' was saying things like 'this is war', 'its coming' bla bla bla. When they say 'afrikaans must fall etc', they are not talking about the language. Just like the other 'whiteness' BS things happening, this has nothing to do with language. These 'youths' want their 'struggle', they want violence and destruction, and will keep pushing until they get it. They all want to post selfies of their scares/wounds and claim their 'struggle' credentials.

Seven years ago you get get a degree at UP without understanding a word of Afrikaans. I am decently sure this has not changed. Taking that into account, the reasons for this protest gets fuzzy. If these students are not disadvantaged by not being able to speak Afrikaans then what are they protesting about? Is it merely the presence of Afrikaans people that offend them?

Yes.

No she said her black colleagues parents' forced them to go to UP because there were no protests and no wasting time. I'm asking what relevance does it have? There are also tons of black students that aren't protesting and WILLINGLY went to UP. So I'm asking WHAT'S HER POINT.

It is my understanding that UP proposed a language policy change wherein English would be UP's official, primary language; Afrikaans and Sepedi would be the only additional languages that could be used when needed.
Apparently pretty much everyone was fairly happy with this new language policy, except for the AfriForum folks. Cue a protest, resulting in EFF and AfriForum students "moering each other".
