UP closes campus after student clashes

Ok since I attend Tuks, I thought I'd sum up what has happened just for anyone who's curious.

From yesterday (The 18th) a bunch of white (not limited to afrikaans) students joined arms and stood against the EFFSC, I'm sure most of you have seen the Afriforum video, the video shows the students being, pushed and at a specific point one of the EFFSC supporters hits a student with his belt (There are claims that the video is slightly bias as apparently some choice words including calling the group "A bunch of ka****s" started the violence and this isn't seen in the video). A different video shows EFFSC supporters throwing objects at the students and at the entrance to the Humanities building, in the video last years SRC president can be seen taking a rubbish bag out of a bin and tearing it open and throwing the contents at other students. One of the supporters was asked why he was carrying a stick if he wanted a peaceful protest, his reply was "Tomorrow we are bringing guns. This is black against white." (I can't verify the validity of this)

Leading up to this the EFFSC have been entering and disrupting lectures (Mostly targeted at afrikaans lectures) They've had the Client Service Center shut down.

Last night they were around vandalizing campus (Things like #AfrikaansMustFall, #AfrikaansMustDie, "**** Oom Jan, **** all the ooms" have been spray painted onto campus walls or lecture chalk boards) This morning the ANC student branch joined in and drove a bakkie with a hugh stereo system around the hatfield area blasting music at around 7AM. Main campus and groenkloof campus were closed for the day. EFFSC then managed to get into one of the girls reses in an attempt to get onto campus but then just protested in front of the res as they couldn't get onto campus or get into the res.

A seperate march had started elsewhere and the two marches joined up to march together toward the union buildings.

EFFSC wants Afrikaans removed as a language of tuition at the university and they want English to be the only recognized language. This demand was made during the #FeesMustFall movement in 2015 and the university said they would consider it and bring it up at the next board meeting. Obviously it was not happening fast enough for EFFSC agenda.

That's most of the information I've been able to gather, I might be missing a few things or maybe some of my facts are wrong, if this is the case I apologize.

No, this is just the stepping stone. If UP buckles here, english will follow too. When browsing twits yesterday, one 'protester' was saying things like 'this is war', 'its coming' bla bla bla. When they say 'afrikaans must fall etc', they are not talking about the language. Just like the other 'whiteness' BS things happening, this has nothing to do with language. These 'youths' want their 'struggle', they want violence and destruction, and will keep pushing until they get it. They all want to post selfies of their scares/wounds and claim their 'struggle' credentials.

Am I? I never assume anyone is racist until proven otherwise. I want to know what her point is (Not Mila. Uyaphapha)? Seemed like she just threw it out there just njeeee...

Then why must there be no Afrikaans lectures at all anywhere at UP? It's what the EFFSC wants. So if its not racist, what are you assuming it is then?

Don't see how she threw it out there, she made a statement that eludes that her black colleagues are not happy with what has been happening.

And get your keyboard checked....its throwing random words out there "njeeee"

This one jumps into a conversation about cats and says he loves chipmunks.
 
The protests are no longer about a real and valid cause. They are only protesting to create disorder. The moment their demands are met they will simply protest for another reason. Everytime the government and the institutions give in they just give more power to the protesters.
