Upcoming Games

Crimson Desert looks incredibly large, something someone can sink hundreds of hours into. Not surprising from the Black Desert devs.

Sadly not my cup of tea no matter how good it looks. I don't have the time to grind 76 bosses with no difficulty settings.

It does look great and massive. The 'massive' part is what tempered my enthusiasm.
Get some AC vibes from it.

and our backlogs Players. I am sure like me yours aren't getting any smaller. Crossed my mind by the time, if, we get to them some would have remasters out already

**** it I farmed a Blackstar and build 2 boats in BDO this will be ezpz.

It will be fun once you start flying around on a dragon. And speaking of dragons, you start with small fry and horses and by the time you can tame a dragon you have to look after it and feed it horses to keep it in a good mood. Crazy.

Literally the only thing I'm sad about is the lack of character creator. And that came as a surprise too, as anyone who ever played BDO can tell you, it's character creator is insane. This guy is just an <insert generic male template 1> type like that recent Final Fantasy dude nobody even remembers the name of anymore. Koreans are really big on looks so I don't know why they went this route.

Oh well it is what it is. At least we'll have mods on PC. Though I guess that's gonna take some time.

The last few days waiting for this game is going to feel like forever.

R361 cheaper than Steam and get it a day earlier? Sure why not.

They added denuvo.
RIP

Also all the performance reviews are based on the non-Denuvo version. So can't really trust any of the performance reviews now. Like the one from Digital Foundry.

Yes, Denuvo Anti-Tamper technology can cause frame spikes, stuttering, and reduced average frame rates, particularly in CPU-intensive games. Evidence suggests that Denuvo's background checks and encryption processes increase CPU usage, which can lead to inconsistencies in frame times and noticeable stuttering.

Key Impacts of Denuvo on Performance:
  • Frame Time Spikes: Benchmarks have shown that Denuvo-protected games can have significantly higher maximum frame times (resulting in stutters) compared to their non-DRM counterparts.
  • CPU Overhead: Denuvo operates by running constant checks on game code, which places additional load on the CPU, causing potential performance drops, especially on mid-range hardware.
  • Lower Minimum FPS: While average frame rates might only be slightly affected in some games, 1% low and 0.1% low frame rates (minimums) often suffer, resulting in less consistent performance.
  • Longer Loading Times: Protected games often exhibit significantly longer loading times, sometimes taking twice as long as unprotected versions.

Ehhh, maybe I've changed my mind. It looks like you can have a huge amount of fun.

Lighting looks amazing. PS5 Pro becoming the base console

Hopefully it's a good game too

I wonder if this game will be any good

Probably not. Seen a few vids and the city looks empty and pretty lifeless. Will check out reviews.

I expect the story to be average but the world and things you can do in it seems to be ridiculously good.

And on top of that this is probably the best optimized game we've seen the past 10 years.

Just goes to show how much better proper in-house engines are compared to the rubbish that is UE5.
Sounds very much like someone who has never played a game before :/

Which vid? You quoted two. Daniel Owens is in the top vids to look at when it comes to PC games benchmarks and as for the first it has timestamps so you are of course free to elaborate with examples of other games doing all that at the same scope, at the same quality and at the same performace.

Requiem has Denuvo. Stellar Blade has Denuvo.

In fact you probably don't even know this but Requiem has 5 layers of anti-cheat/tamper. Right now. And its a single player game.

If a max 5% loss in performance bothers you then instead of buying games upgrade your PC.

The first one. The endless gushing about stuff that's been in games for over 10 years is... weird.
To be fair I posted that because it shows stuff I've not seen before. Never heard of the dude who made the vid until then so he gets no endorsement from me.

Yes its been done but the level of detail on display here is absurd. First thought to most of us was likely that this is all too good to be true. No way can a game do all this and look this good while running well.

Or could it?

We'll know firsthand in 4 days.
