Stage 6 load-shedding this week

Eskom has published a new load-shedding schedule that will be implemented immediately and will run until Thursday, 4 May 2023.

Update:

Eskom says stage 6 power cuts will continue — here is the new timetable

Eskom has announced that it will not decrease load-shedding on Thursday as planned and will instead maintain its alternating schedule of stage 4 and stage 6 power cuts.

The state-owned power utility said on Monday that it hoped to alternate between stage 3 and stage 5 on Thursday.

Oh so that what is what they are doing. I thought they just pitch up for their monthly social grant.

I can't quite place it, but I keep reading about stages 8, 9 and 11 somewhere. Some publication that keeps repeating it 500 times a day. :unsure:

It's odd though, because we only ever go to 6 :unsure:

So it was more just a joke around MyBB's constant fear mongering (a poor one, looking back now), but in all honesty, I'm pretty sure the government gave Eskom a mandate to not go higher than stage 6.

They will rather do load curtailment and load reduction than push up to higher stages, looking at the past.

In reality they would need to, residential only uses 20% of the total power, you only gain so much from shedding them, the higher stages have also shown them it's diminishing returns with things like batteries, geysers, fridges and whatnot kicking in around the peaks anyway.

I'm glad I'm not the person in charge that has to determine what stage, load curtailment, or load reduction level we're on and who to cut. It must be a stressful job to try and keep everyone from residential to industry 'happy'.

There is quite a large category of retail and light industrial, fed by the same zones and schedules as residential customers. Many of them have long since moved to generators to stay in business.

Some of the larger customers such as SAB Newlands moved to oil fired boilers which they use to generate stream. You can often see the initial black smoke as this starts up during load shedding.
