HI all,

I've haven't connected to Live in about 6 months so I'm lacking the Fall update.

Is there a way to update the dashboard via flash, similar to the PS3?

No but you can update via a rewritable cd ! just download the latest Backward compatibility update from the MS website (its under the gaming section) and the dashboard updates are usually included. All u do is copy the main file (I think its xbox.xex or sumthin like that) to the cd and boot the disk in ur 360.

i learned something now as well.
Did not know that the backwards compatibility includes the updates!!!

Sounds cool ... sounds dodgy too ;) Is it legit?

Excellent thanks !

You tried this exact link?

I downlaoded it, unzipped and I seem to get a file called su20076000_000000 with no extension :( Seems to mention a default.xex file in the description :/

Should I try?

Yes thats the file name ! Copy everything in the zip onto a blank disc and boot it in the 360 ! the update will take less than a minute ! and the default.xex (thats the main file)

I just tried twice :(

I copied the entire zipped file onto a CD as I had burned it - nothing. Threw away the CD :(

Then I unzipped and renamed that weird file inside to default.xex ... said unrecognise disk :(

Just downloaded the zip and i see what you mean ! try to copy that file inside the zip straight to a cd and see what happens ! try to use a rewritable like i said before !

all previous updates had the default.xex file so i dunno what up with this one

Did you copy the .ZIP file onto the cd?

You are on the right track but just need someone to show you the route

anyways, try keeping the folder structure and copying that onto the cd.

Right-click on the zip file and extract to .
Do not rename the file.

You should have the following folder structure:
C:\$SystemUpdate_12-2007\$SystemUpdate\su20076000_00000000
Hope that helps.

I had similar problems.
Copied the .zip file on to a disc - advised it is a mixed media disc.
Copied the file only on to a disc - disc read error, advised to clean the disc.
Renamed the file to default.exe - disc read error, advised to clean disc.

I trashed 4 dvd's. :(

the joys of rewritable's.

hmmm...yes, i know. :D
Was being to lazy to ran down the stairs and grab what we have next to the recorder.

Yea - exactly ! Trashed for CD's so far ;)

What did you do, Kage?

maybe a poke in the dark here, but maybe it needs to be a rewriteable. I know on the original xbox to load slayers you have to use a rewritable.

 hmmmm...

the update for backward compatibility is completely independent of the writable media , wheter it is cd, rw cd, dvd or rw dvd should not matter.
My update for backward compatibility on dvd was perfect.

the confusion comes in where the file mentioned on the website is default.xex and the file name is not the same on the dowloaded file.

@ Dohc-WP
Can you plese check your original disc/file to see if it is defaul.xex?

All updates before the december 07 update had a default.xex file (Dolby if u want those versions i can mail it 2 u) the dec one does not seem to contain such a file. I think Yuu was right by saying keep the directory structure and write it as is in the folders to the disc so if you are going to extract it to
c:\$SystemUpdate_12-2007\$SystemUpdate\su20076000_00000000 den write it to the disc x:\$SystemUpdate_12-2007\$SystemUpdate\su20076000_00000000 (x is whateva your cd writer is.

The HD dvd update for the 360 came with a similiar type of directory structure, im just trying to find that disc to establish how i copied it
