Upgrade from 8800GT

If you want to see a decent performance leap over the 8800gt XXX then get the 4870 1GB or gtx260+ and above cards (gtx285 | 4870x2 etc.) or tell him you'll get the 4890 when it comes out in April-ish..

yeah, that HD4890 does look like a real mans graphics card, and would be worth the wait of a month or less... my guess is that it would cost about R3000(it's got a rumored price on $199-$249, and since our resellers are so greedy, they would charge a 25%+ mark up on those prices)

Based on what has been said thus far ... I think I will wait... get him a few games till April... I am hearing some good things about the 4890 ...

and whoever mentioned the 1GB memory as a minimum ... I got to agree 100%.
