Upgrade my PC help?

I do think OP deserves the 2400g, 20 fps seems to suit his personality.

You can get a fairly cheap PC that should work with AAA. R5000 should be more than enough.

Processor: The EL-531WHB processors go for fairly cheap specially if it is on sale.

Fan: I will recommend the HP 8230 to keep it cool. No need to spend a lot on those expensive coolers.

Memory: For memory get the Vital IQ. It has very good reviews even if not many know about it.

Chassis: The Rottner Homestar 1 makes beautiful cases for fairly cheap and it also protect the hardware, an aspect many gaming PC's lack.

Power Supply: Also get the NI-MH 840MAH power supply will be more than enough for the above specs, specially for AAA.

Just check the prices on Takealot and comapare it to other shops.

ok guys

Lets start this over. Sorry for the bad start.
Apologies for calling people in the tread retards.
I really thought the info given would be enough.

I don't have a budget.
I can spend 20k if need be, (going to much harder getting missus approval)
Ideally R8k should cover what I need if possible.

A quick google and a very terse read through 3 of the most anticipated 2018 releases' minimum specs seems to give 2nd/3rd gen i5,1gig graphics card,4gig RAM
So given that, you should be able to comfortably upgrade to a machine that's approximately 7 years old and play most of the games at the absolute lowest settings with more than 1fps theoretically (vendor minimum's are also pretty variable so depends on their definition)

I'd expect a combo like that to reasonably resell 2nd hand for approximately R2100,using your existing PC as the base. You might need a power supply extra depending on the quality of your existing one

Thanks
Is there any reason why one should consider AMD over Intel nowadays for gaming reasons?
Or is this a potato-patato choice?

Ponder will be able to give you a best machine per rand but he needs a budget. This should lure him in :)

What is the smallest cheapest (no assumptions required, cheap = cheap as in entry level as in bottom end) hardware parts one should buy today, in order to play a AAA title these days.
It cannot possibly that hard to grasp?

CPU: i3-8100
MB: Cheapass B360
RAM: 8GB
GPU: GTX 1060 3GB

The above will allow you to play AAA games at decent (min60) fps if you lower a gfx setting here or there. The above is however not what I would recommend you should buy as 4 cores I often see maxed out at 100% on my system these day, 8GB is also maxed and dipping into pagefile so rather get 16GB, GPU go gtx 1060 6GB as it performs a bit better and you don't have limitations of the 3gb framebuffer which is really not enough these days.

I don't have issues with 2nd hand, but I am wary of duds.
I'd rather stick to new.
Do you have a trusted source for 2nd hand parts?
Many of us are members on Carbonite forums too, reputation based sales system
There's always a risk with 2nd hand (or new out of box of course) if you can handle the gamble you can win more often than lose

My personal rig is about 80% 2nd hand parts, and cost about 20-30% of retail
