I have re-read this 5 times now and cannot see what is so unclear.

Do you wan't to play those AAA games at 720p, 1080p or 1440?
Do you wan't to play those AAA games at 20fps, 30fps, 60fps, 100fps etc?
Are you ok with the system just scraping by today and by next year it's a dog?

It makes a difference and are questions that need asking, there are people out there that play at 720p or 30fps and to them thats acceptable but might not be for you. One size does not fit all.

I understand that, hence the apology and budget given in a later post.
Thanks for your responses, I have the info I need now.

Fair

Now you have a absolute minimum, and some minimums with a little more longevity :)

Give Ponder a budget you are comfortable with and I can assure you, you will get the best machine for your money. Time to commit to a budget and let Ponder do his magic, you will not be disappointed!

ok guys

Lets start this over. Sorry for the bad start.
Apologies for calling people in the tread retards.
I really thought the info given would be enough.

I don't have a budget.
I can spend 20k if need be, (going to much harder getting missus approval)
Ideally R8k should cover what I need if possible.

Go and buy top of the range then.

I started reading top down and did not get to that yet.

I will play around with some parts and prices as sometimes spending a bit more can result in a big step up in performance. Will get back to you with some suggestions a bit later if I can.

Just to confirm, you only need MB, RAM, CPU & GPU and have all the other goodies from your previous system?

Will that get the nod from the wife? I'll see what else I can come up with.

PS Anybody know if PotterH has any Intel CPU deals as I don't see the usual bargains on his site.

Solid...the second iteration of Ryzen is neck-and-neck with the Intel equivalent (8400) when paired with fast memory (+3000mhz). All while having 6 threads extra for some longevity.

Before that second version came out, I would have picked the 8400 for a decent gaming build.

Lets compare the above build to the absolute bare minimum i3 I mentioned earlier on which I do not recommend by the way.

The RAM is 8GB vs 16GB, CPU is 4Core/4Thread vs 6Core/12Thread (which is huge and it will last you many years to come whereas the i3 is not really enough these days and has very little future for AAA), GPU is ~10 less powerful and has 3GB vs 6GB VRAM. All this amounts to a R3500 price difference but you gat a lot more for that R3500 in the Ryzen system listed above.

R1979 - Intel Core i3-8100 3.6GHz Quad Core 14nm Coffee Lake Socket LGA1151 Desktop CPU
R1329 - G.Skill F4-2666C15D-8GVR Ripjaws V 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4-2666MHz CL15 1.2V Red Desktop Memory
R3749 - Palit GeForce GTX 1060 Dual NE51060015F9-1061D 3GB GDDR5 PCI-E 3.0 192-bit Desktop Graphics Card
R8366

I do not recommend the i3 system above, it's comparable in performance to my i5-4690 8GB system I got in 2015 which often sees the CPU pegged at 100% on all 4 cores and using the pagefile as it's exceeded 8GB RAM with the newer AAA titles.
