Upgrade my PC help?

Solid...the second iteration of Ryzen is neck-and-neck with the Intel equivalent (8400) when paired with fast memory (+3000mhz). All while having 6 threads extra for some longevity.

Before that second version came out, I would have picked the 8400 for a decent gaming build.

Yeah I was pretty impressed with the 2600 benchmarks and noticed the difference immediately on some games (gta v for example) which always ran slower than intel on the 1600 and those differences were gone.

Compared to the 8400 you get more threads (double), you can OC the 2600 and the socket will probably see a longer life than the intel one. They cost the same as well.

EDIT:
The 8400 has higher overall fps but many reviewers exlain what you do not pick up from the benchmarks is the smoother gameplay feel on the 2600 due to it having better 0.1% & 1% frame dip issues.

Thank you ponder.
I have the info and guidance I need now.
I appreciate the time you took.

If you do decide to go with that build just confirm with wootware that the MB firmware is compatible with the newer 2600 ryzen cpu and if not if they can flash it for you ;)

2nd gen i5 or newer ~R600
Motherboard (entry level) ~R350
750 Ti or better ~R900
8 GB RAM ~R220

I'm sure your power supply is good enough to power low-end components.

I haven't encountered a game that my i3 4170, GTX 750 Ti and 8 GB can't play. You won't max out the eye candy but you'll play at 1080p @ ~45 FPS (depending on the game) with a decent image.
