Upgrade only

Sigh dude. Don't give out incorrect information. Bulldozer is backwards compatible to current boards and AM3+ boards will support current CPUs. AMD has way better upgrade path and have had so for a while now.

And yes they didnt make a 9800 in AGP.

My advice is to keep the card and get new cpu, board and power supply.

ATI ja, nvidia no, unless you have a link to one.

Hi there.
No, my Nvidia 9800GT is PCi-e, and by quad core, you mean AMD??, or pentium quad, sorry for the dumb question?
Thanx

Hey~

well consider the posiblity of upgrading later, don't get a quad core.. Because then you'll be limited to 775...

But if you ge a i3 or i5 if you can afford it, then go for it, as you can upgrade to i7 later...

2DD3 is more than enough, but 4GB will be better...

well that's what I think..

Lionking consider a Socket am3 mobo, an Athlonx4 640[quad on a budget], get your 4gb's of ram and PSU and when bulldozer arrives the chip upgrade to bulldozer will be much cheaper in the long run.

If all goes well and you shop right you would even have some change for that better CPU and you could enjoy your game now!

Its your choice.

lol i5 also has a quad core.. Well 2 actually, the i5 750 and i5 760.

From what I've read, Bulldozer will use AM3r2 and the processor will not work on older AM3 boards, but older AM3 processors will work on the new AM3r2 boards. *Must still do some research to check the facts, not 100% sure, might even just be a simple bios update.

So with 1156 dying and AM3* don't plan future proofing your system in terms of upgrade-ability..

EDIT: looks like it is true http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/di...rocessors_Will_Require_New_Platforms_AMD.html

You are right it may well be another AM3 platform, but after extensive googling it seems that existing am3 will still be supported with a slightly different variation of the bulldozer, or certain features will be unavailable.
Its not certain but more then likely.

Yes. AMD Quad. On your budget AMD is the best solution by far.

No... 2gb is not NEARLY enough these days.
2GB of RAM is enough, depending on the operating system and the applications you're using.
Quite a few people in my office are still using C2D's with 2GB of RAM and they're not complaining. Of course they won't mind having 4GB of RAM either.

I can't go with anything less than 3GB of RAM and sometimes even 4GB isn't enough, which is why I got a Socket 1366 motherboard with 6GB DDR3 1600MHz :)

Try to stay away from the cheap AMD CPU's (4xx dual cores and 6xx quad core series), since they lack Level3 cache. The X4 945 is quite popular now.

I own both the Phenomx4 and an Athlon x4 and can honestly tell you that i cannot see the lack of L3 hindering that cpu for gaming and multimedia.Unless lionking is a graphic designer?
