Upgrade phone - Sony X1 or something else?

i had my contract with mtn for about 6 years now and havent had one problem
until i went to get a new contract 2 weeks ago, still waitin for them to get back to me!

Well, I'm still waiting to get my sim activated on MTNSP, application was approved on the 18th Feb, N85 was delivered on the 27th Feb and still waiting for sim to be activated, porting from Nashua Mobile.

I have, including data bundles for my businesses, 9 contracts with various service providers, Vodacom for data and MTN for telephony. I've found MTNSP service poor...

+1. Their service is anything but good at the moment.

I would go for the HTC Touch Pro too, my partner's got the X1 and I'm not overly impressed by it. It's a fantastic phone make no mistake but I find it a bit too contrived and finicky/gimmicky... Just a personal opinion based on a very limited period playing with it.... I fancy the HTC's...

i also use my x1 extensivly for emails and other instant messaging apps.. the keyboard is great... i was like you, couldnt bare the thought of having to type out a message on the screen...

as for WinMo?? this is my 1st WinMo phone... cant say it has more or less problems than any other smart phone.. one really awesome aspect of the phone is that there are literally TONS of apps you can use to enhance the phone...

Also, with the panels of the X1.. i have a "work hours" panel, "after work" panel, and a "weekend" panel... its like having 3 phones (or 9 phones as there are 9 panels) in one...
the gps is the best i have seen (working with tomtom), and internet is superfast... once used logmein to fix a clients pc... i was on the n3 highway somewhere between jhb and durban... the connection was probably gprs but it worked 100% fine...

the screen is pretty awesome... SUPER clear.... you cant go wrong...

but thats my 2 cents...

Yeah, I'm also a huge fan of the HTC brand, but the Pro just looks so boring... lol... I'm going to give the X1 a spin, and if I'm not happy I will exchange it within the 7 days for the Pro. I don't see any other phone that is going to suit me.

Well,

the TouchPro has the better keyboard, for sure.

But X1 takes it with the better screen and minijack headphone plug. Those are the dealbreakers for me, and is why i'd take the X1 every time. YMMV.

funny you mention the minijack headphone thingy... i never thought it was anything special... that was until i got the phone... man... i love it... also.. in terms of the screen.. i have seen (since i got the x1), a stack load of other smart phones.. and honestly... all the screens suck compared to the x1's... simply class

Ok, so been using this for a couple weeks now, and I'm pretty happy. Screen looks awesome, and with HSUPA it feels a lot faster when using it as a modem.

One thing I can't get going, is the short code to check free minutes etc on contract. Usually it's *162*PIN# but I just get an "Application Is Not Running" error. Any ideas??
