Upgrade time S4 or Iphone 5

This would be the best choice for me, dont know if there is stock though. That and after sale support(lack of it). other wise its the best phone out there. The GS4 would be my second chose. still i cannot stand TouchWiz and the cheap nasty plastic feel.
The iPhone is just too small for me, OS is outdated and is not flexible enough for me.

lol must be an Android user... ive had the option since was avaliable and LTE always off and i get 3G everywhere.
 
Htc stock is coming end of the month. Do yourself a favour and get it.

Don't wait for the bigger htc as it's still a rumour. Anyways, anything bigger than 4.7 is too much. Even 4.7 is pushing it for me coming from my galaxy s2.

The S4 is a great phone but the htc takes it in my opinion. HTC Sense is slick, simple, elegant and uncluttered. Truth is you can't go wrong with either. Choose the one that whispers to you.

Then you should probably get an iPhone5 imho. It's much better than the iPhone4 and you're used to using it. Also any investments in Apps that you've bought for the iPhone will be lost and would have to be bought again on the S4.

Otherwise it would be a good idea to actually hold both phones in your hand before making your final decision. Most people don't really understand how much bigger the S4 is compared to the iPhone5, in size and weight. Once you're used to the size of an iPhone it can be quite a shock to see and feel the S4.

Just a shame about iTunes tho.......
 
I have had the dummy HTC one and played with an S4 and Iphone 5, the S4 and HTC are much bigger, like the HTC's feel.

The existing phone will go to the SO..

I agree with Toxin.

If you already invested in the Apple ecosystem then maybe stick with it. If you've enjoyed your 4 you will love the 5. It is superior to the 4 in every aspect barring perhaps battery life.

If you were coming from Symbian or Windows, with no shares in Apple, I would be inclined to recommend the S4, despite being a staunch Apple supporter myself.

The S4 is state of the art. It's the pinnacle of the Smartphone industry currently and I suspect a vastly different experience to what Apple is currently offering. There's a lot more fun to he had with a S4, a lot more to discover, a lot more to tweak and play with, where the 5 is pretty much same old same old.

If like me you use your smartphone to do the basic stuff, email, IM, taking photos on the fly, a bit of browsing, odd spot of remote support, twitter and facebook, occasional book, music... the 5 does all this with aplomb.
 
Personally I would wait for HTC One if I where you. Well depending on iOS investments like apps and so on.

As for Apps already bought on iOS, it might be a good idea to sum them up and compare to cost and alternatives in play store before you switch eco systems.

I am just glad I got out of iOS grasp early (iPhone 4), iOS will not see me again for a loooooooong time, well until they get rid of iTunes and the fact that apps can not share data between each other without using iCloud or other online storage.
 
App integration, agreed, is poor but your dependency on iTunes has been greatly diminished since 6.0. Other than the initial activation it can be avoided altogether.

Yep, with a UI whose smoothness & polish Android cant yet match, even on the S4. It may be boringly familiar & restrictive, but if you want the slickest communication tool available, I rate the iPhone 5 still has the edge.

Not if you want to do more with a phone than just phone and play Angry birds.

Using it to consume/transfer media stored on my PC, transferring documents and so on still needs iTunes.

We'll probably be seeing iOS7 during WWDC next month.

The hdd my iTunes library was on took a dive last month after a power failure and I still haven't bothered to replace it. iTunes is handy but certainly not required.

Why? Goodreader and AVPlayer are just 2 apps I use that make use of data transfer via http?

Do not even mention that fear to me. Lost my music with a HD crash some time back, lucky I could just copy the mp3's on my Android phone back to my new HD.

Wifi transfer of 5-10 gig at a time, now that is bright esp when you look at USB speeds, maybe if you have all the time in the world go for it, some of us have better things to do.

And yes I know you can transfer files using Wifi/http/ftp and so on, its not the point I am trying to make. I was certainly not trying to start a OS war, my original comment was purely based on personal use. So Yes you can live without iTunes but you have to do so by creating self made hurdles. Like using WiFi to copy 10+ gigs of data.

I am very aware of the hurdles and deal with it everyday (iPad 2). For me personally I prefer to just plug my device into my PC and use normal file managers to copy data to where I want em.

I pulled the songs from my iPhone easily enough but that was only a fraction of the collection. Luckily I found a backup of my library last night on an older drive which appears to have the majority of my collection on it so all wasnt lost. When I restore that later today (time willing) I'll also sign up for iTunes Match and then I can work off that in the future.

OP here's my view, i owned a iphone 4 and recently upgraded to an S4.

I also have played around with an iphone 5 for a few days so i know more or less the workings of it.

i prefer the S4 although if you using the phone just for the basics then i say go for the iphone, end of story (it just works)

I use mine alot for games and media and i transfer alot between my pc and phone, i also like playing around with every feature (although im no techie) which is why the S4 is perfect for me, so depending what you going to use it for the choice is up to you.
