So i’m upgrading in 2 months, so this is probably a little premature, but I’m excited non the less.
Currently i have a Iphone 5, besides the power button which is not working, it’s quite the phone, no real issues besides i can’t buy cheap power cables, and fixing the power button will cost me an arm and a leg, but i like IOS, i love the build quality of the Iphone and the overall experience. But same with a car, one get used to it and want something new, so i highly doubt i will wait for the Iphone 6.

My options are as follows (i’m leaning towards the Z2)

XperiaZ2

Pro’s
Excellent build quality
Very good camera
Water and dust resistant
Decent battery

Con’s
Nothing spectacular feature about the phone

LG G3
Pro’s
Best display on the market
Very good Camera
Decent batary

Con’s
Plastic
Volume buttons below the camera on the back (Why?)

Samsung S5

Pro’s
Fingerprint scanner (even though i read it fails most of the time)
Heart rate monitor
Waterproof
Good display
Decent Battery

Con’s
Worst design of all the phones, feels like a plastic pièce of S**t
S6 will most probably look exactly like the S5

Now i have heard good things about the BlackBerry Z30, and its something completely different from IOS and Android

Z30
Pro’s
Very good buil quality
Amazing battery life
Get Data for cheaper
Sound Quality is good

Con’s
Worst camera of them all
Resolution not that great
BlackBerry Maps.......
Less Apps that Android and IOS
Don’t think its water resistant

HTC One M8

Due to its unavailability and lack of support i won’t consider it.

The LG was only recently announced. One of the networks in the UK said they'd have it from July 1st.

The HTC One is here from next month on Vodacom and MTN (Unsure about availability on MTN as they are advertising it already).

IMO that means we'll have the One before the G3.

I'm getting the One through the Orange store, so that solves the availability problem for me :P

Perhaps say what you're looking for in a phone. That might help with deciding.

With me, HTC may have the worst support and availability here - but it's just a beautiful phone with great sound and excellent build quality. It may have the worst camera in terms of MP but after looking at samples, I'm happy with it.

The only thing that puts me off the One and Z2 is the inability to replace batteries.

Out of the list your best bet in SA would be between S5 and Z2.
Under pros you forgot to add ADH, USB3 and Excellent customer support for the S5.

I only mention the USB3 because I can charge my phone from 5% to 100% in around an hour and back it up (total backup size was around 10GB) in under 15 minutes.

I'd say, grab the G3. The plastic on the G2 is decent - nothing like the Note 2 I had, its got a nice feel. Regarding the buttons on the back, you will understand if you get one.... Just have a look at how your hand is at the back of the phone when holding it with one hand, for me it we just a very slight adjustment to have my finger on the unlock button... Knock-on also works very well, as does knock-code :)

That's impressive!, so the S5 is the only smartphone with USB3 ?, my only issue with the S5 is its horrible design, 90% of everyone i know has a S4 or a S5, and it honestly feels cheap

@mr_norris
Build and screen quality is what i'm looking for, and having a Apple i would really wish my next phone's battery lasts longer than a few hours if its being used.
i have always been a HTC fan, absolutely loved the HTC One, but it has the worst battery life of all the mentioned phones (besides iphone), its also not water resistant. Going by looks alone HTC is victorious, followed byte the G3 and the Z2

what puts off Sony phones is the software with every update a new glitch is created edit: Especially when newer models are released

The volume buttons on the back wil probably not bother me that much, going by hardware its probably the most powerful of the lot, also looks good. Will have to hold one in my hand to made a decision though. i really like the Z2 though.

I used a Z2 at Vodacom the other day, didn't really impress me at all. In terms of software on it, I still don't like it - I had a Z... That Z also wasn't the most reliable. In the mean time, go hold a G2 and get a feel for it

Get the Nexus 5, save R5k and spend the money on your next holiday.

/waits for kingrob to tell me that the camera is worth R5k

BB10 uses normal data bundles like any other smartphone.
The OS is buggy(I have a few at work)
BB is dead!
I was in the same boat so I ordered a Lumia 1520, going to try WP.

I don't know about you but most people I know tend to slap a cover of some sort onto the phone shortly after getting it making the actual look of the phone a non issue.
I specifically got the gold for this as it has the prettiest front of the lot in my opinion. Slap a Spigen cover onto it and it is as good looking as any phone out there. Even without a cover they are actually very nice to look at and ergonomically designed to feel right in your hand. Unlike the glass and steel phones it is also not slippery when wet and the screen actually works if it has water on it (unlike the fully waterproof yet completely useless when wet Z2).

I do like how rugged the phone is though when comparing drop tests and such, it may damage the pastic edge but the phone just goes and goes (unless you hit it with a 4 pound hammer repeatedly, then the battery takes off :D ).
If you want proof of how strong it really is the S5 thread has videos of it doing everything from a full cycle in a washing machine, being driven over by a SUV to being dropped from a 2n'd floor balcony.

Not on CellC, there are special BB10 bundles which are much cheaper.

Work gave me a Lumia, not a phone i will ever recommend, or rather Windows mobile.

Not a good enough reason to get one of the biggest pieces of brown smelly stuff on the planet when it comes to smartphones. And from your list above, it doesn't seem that you were really interested in it. You will be getting the Z2 ...

Your argument makes lots of sense, S5 was never really an option, but will definitely have a better in depth look at the phone now, one thing i don't like is a phone that breaks on the slightest drop or bump....The S5 must be better than the S4 then?, i have 2 friends which S4's screen has cracked.

There is a huge difference between BB10 and the old crap we are used to, i have never owned a BB, but played on a buddies Z30, and honestly it was not bad at all.

S5 vs S4 drop test video and yes the S5 is much better.

Yeah this. If battery is a main concern then the Z30 is pretty decent. Quite cheap as well.

Looking at the Androids though I'd only consider the Z2 and HTC One.

Not according to my brother in law - he said it is the same ol' crap in a pretty packaging. But get one and let us know.
