Upgrading from a 384 line to 4mb?

hey Guys

I am wanting to upgrade my 384 line to 4mb and would like to find out how they will bill me if I call them today and request they upgrade me.

Will Telkom charge me the whole amount even though there is only 10 days left of February or is it a pro rata kind of system?

Also how long should it take to get the 4mb speeds?

hope you can get a 4meg line. I got the "sorry your exchange is to old for a 4 meg line, but have a 512 line instead" talk
 
mine took like an hour and whoosh I was on 4mbit without any hassle...

Awesome :) so now I want to know how the billing works?

So if I activated it today would i pay the full 4mb amount for February even though I only had it for 10 days?
 
I'm sure it will be Pro-Rata. If you get your line the first time and it is in the middle of the month, they do the same there....
 
It will be pro - rata, from the day it was activated till the last day of your billing month. Check your account or phone Telkom when that is. The billing month is not necessary from the 1st to the 30th, it could be from the 7th to the the 6th or anything in that line.

So if you have 5 days left in your billing month, you will be charged for 25 days of 384KB rental and 5 days of 4Mbps rental.
The upgrade is worth every sent. you will go from 32KB avg to about 420KB avg.
I am assumed that you will get at least 3.5Mbps when I used above figures.
 
Mine was prorata when I got an upgrade about a year ago. Now I'm in limbo while Telkom decides whether they will ever lay cables to my new house. Sigh, I really miss that line.

No No. Telkom has Pro Rata. Don't worry. You will not get charged the full amount. If you apply for the upgrade they will tell you this too.

Tomorrow I am going to find out whether I am able to upgrade to 4mb and if its a Yebo I will be over the moon!
 
Sometimes they say you can get 4Mb but you get less.

I can only get 2Mb, when I complain they say the advertisement says "up to 4 Mb" !

But it works OK - I get the full upwards speed.

Is there an online site or something to check to see whether DSLAM in my area is 4mbps enabled?
 
All DSLAMs are 4Mbps enabled. It is the condition and length of the copper connection from your premises to the exchange that is the limiting factor.

Rubbish, who told you that.

Copper does determine your max speed but not all the DSLAM's support 4 meg. Mine doesn't even support 1meg and its less than a Km away

Early Dec '09 over 92% of all DSLAMs were 4Mbps enabled....
