Hi guys... ok I need to buy my OS today! and start updating today!
Currently I have an illegal version of XP :/.. not proud of that but what can one do. I now finally have cash to go and buy a Legal OS and I want a Legal one for Rage in case any bs happens. So now I would like to know from you guys...
Vista or XP?? My machine was built for Vista eg DX10 gfx card, Mobo, enough ram ect so im keen very to check out DX10 and just feel more updated. Im still kinda confused as to which OS performs better with games and so on so id like your guys advice. I still dont see how a older OS can be better than a newer one, just doesnt make sense. The only thing I can think of why people dont like Vista is there PC's cant run it properly. So please advice guys... I need to buy this afternoon :)

Thanks

my vote will go to the tried and tested Windows XP,just because i really don't like vista, and no my pc can run it way fine.just don't like the stupid thing, its like windows millenium was to windows 2000 and windows XP,it was the interim between the 2

I would say XP, in the interests of letting you have the least amount of inconvenience and preventing you from having a slow PC

If you want xp for the DX10 games let me laugh now. Ha Ha Ha

The devs don't put effort into DX10 because it's vista only.

I have a powerful gaming rig which would be great for vista, but I just won't touch it.

XP FTW.

ahhh Thanks guys

ffs I hate Microsoft. So DX10 is not worth it??
Another thing... Can I have one copy on Two Pcs? I have 2 pcs in my home. Would they it be "legal" and work 100 percent on both PCs?
Soz for the n00b questions

I have Vista and XP installed, some of my games run better in vista others in XP, an example is COD4 feels smoother in my vista and has a few extra frames. I generally have no problem with either OS as it seems most the problems with vista have been sorted out.

It'll work fine...its just not legal (1 license per PC) AFAIK

I say Vista...

FFS you lot are so stupid, whats wrong with Vista??
What? Your games and programs wont install? Thats back when it was launched! Guess what? It works great now!

If you want long term benifit, go with Vista.

Oh and google Windows Mojave and see what the ignorant masses have fallen for.

Indeed, you can only use a copy on one PC, unless you get a site licence, which is bloody expensive. As for which OS, I'd recommend Vista, only because it's xp plus other stuff (DX10, more ram support for the 64bit version, which is stable). If you have a machine built with vista in mind, you won't have any problems. Sure it'll be slower than xp, but come on, what do you expect? When i upgraded from fedora 7 to 9, it seemed slower. It's NORMAL for a newer OS to be slower than an older one on the same hardware. And now, after sp1, it's better than ever. Just my 2piasters

Eish Idk what to do.... Vista or XP?? Arrrrgghhhh hahahahaha
Im also thinking Long term benifits here, Vista just seems like a better choice. Guys which one Idk what to choose... Also if I do choose Vista which one should I get. I hear Vista Business is pretty good.

Vista has pretty much caught up with XP in terms of performance and will offer much better upgradablity...

First make sure any device you might be using actually DO have Vista Support. Since you're obviously a gamer, i can imagine alot of things jumping out in vista [i.e. you might have some fancy keyboard or mouse which does not have proper driver support on vista etc etc].

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Vista as long as you have 2-4GB RAM and a decent setup - don't go install it on a 5 year old PC.

Yea thanks I have thought about Driver support and so on. I think ive made a Decision...
I want to buy XP for the Work PC seen as its only a P4, and buy Vista for my Gaming PC. This Sound like a good decision or bad?? I have the Cyber Snipa Intelliscope mouse which I got only yesterday omf it rulz but I see driver support only upto XP :/... but then my friend whos running Vista Business has the exact same mouse and his is working no problems. So.... choices to make, I have no idea what to do still ehehe.

Thanks for the advice guys really appreciate it.

Get vista, not sure if they all can, but you have a downgrade right xp license built in or summin

So if one day you wanna go to vista, you already purchased it.

2 birds with one stone.

quick googled:

I’m not sure how many people are aware of this, but if you buy a Windows Vista Business or Ultimate then you can use a Windows XP CD (which you have legal access to) to load Windows XP onto that machine.

When you need the product key / or need to activate, this will potentially fail, but a quick call to the activation centre with your Vista product key should give you all the details you need. Then when you are ready to put Vista onto that machine, you can do without the cost of buying it anew. Alternatively you can buy Windows XP today and should you ever want to load Vista, you can give more money to a shop to get a copy again.

Do you expect there to be BS @ rage about OS licenses?

No no just this quoted outta NAG "Please ensure that your PC has the latest service packs installed" got me worried. Mine OS is old and illegal.
Like I said Idk nothing about OS's so im just being cautious.

Im off to the store to go get a copy soon. Thanks so much for the advice guys.
Stormwalker thanks for getting that information for me. Thank you

Ill cya guys on the flip side of a newly installed OS ;)

Vista imo. If your going to spend hardearned cash on an M$ OS atm....then buying something 7 years old isn't such a hot idea.

Atm XP is better for gaming....but it won't be for long. It would suck to be stuck with XP when Vista SP2 comes out.
