URGENT... Vista or XP

Actually xp is only better for gaming if your playing old games.

Vista is better than xp, gaming its on par provided games are not old.

If you want something different go with vista, if you want the same old boring XP then go with it.

As much as I hate Vista.... And as much as I love Gaming & XP... IF you have a High end machine and you want to utilize DX10 for Crysis & COH... It pains me to say but Vista is the way to go.

ATM I have one 3.2GHz LGA775, 2GB RAM, 256 ATI with XP which I run my games on. My new PC coming in a month will be C2Duo, 4GB, 512 8800GT THAT I will have run Vista on for DX10

I can't believe people still go on about this. It was months, almost years ago when the first Vista drivers for Nvidia/ATI sucked. Since then gaming performance is almost identical, it can be faster in some cases even with a slightly (in terms of gaming) more bloated system.

And if you have 4Gb of RAM then Vista 64 is the only way.
 
I would say, go with Vista. XP is great, but it's also insecure, despite all the patching. With XP, you still need your anti spyware and virus and firewall, and even then you still worry a lot.

Vista is more secure from the ground up, and as time goes on, performance will increase. It really is not as bad as a lot of people make it out to be, and driver issues have mainly been sorted out now.

With some tweaking on your side as well, you can boost speed quite a bit.

So my vote says go with Vista.

Good choice(although home premium is all you need really), buying XP would have been like purchasing a run down donkey, people need to move forward already.

Vista will only get better with each service pack, XP was mighty unstable at first too but its oooold now :rolleyes:

Vista runs flawlessly man, its actually the most incredible OS to date from Microsoft.

Managing cores better? explain this to me please?

Havoc why is it rich? What does vista not do or what area's is it bad? because i have no idea.

Afaik none of MS's previous OS have resulted in such a huge percentage of people downgrading. (33% or something?) Calling it "inch perfect" & "flawless" somehow doesn't gel with that. Its a good OS no doubt...but its not perfect.

UAC, High Requirements, incompatibility with existing software, driver certification extortion etc.

None of which is a serious problem...but its enough to make it less than perfect.
 
UAC you can turn off, it is not up to microsoft to make all your major applications compatible and XP had the same problems. Also most software now works with vista unless the makers are slack and again this has nothing to do with Vista.

People are downgrading because their systems are to slow. Yes microsoft's fault but still does not make the OS imperfect.

High requirements does not make an OS imperfect, does the fact that crysis requires a monster pc make it a bad game? no it makes it the most technologically advanced game out.

When i say its perfect i mean, give vista what it requires and its perfect.
Give it a slow pc and obviously your going to struggle.

Do you think when people upgraded their old windows 98 pc's to xp that they ran well? hell no they needed to upgrade or go back to 98.

Whats this driver extortion you speak of?

The problem with Vista software compatability is that the vendors tend not to release patches for older software. If you want your 100% legal software to work, you have to buy the latest versions. I have Pinnacle Studio, Norton Ghost, ACDSEE etc. All legal for windows XP, but I've had to get creative :) to get Vista compatible versions.

It does affect customer perceptions of the OS. I had some serious problems initially, but after re-installing Vista and getting the latest drivers for EVERYTHING, I've had no problems (not a single glitch) for a couple of weeks now. Vista is working beautifully and I'm enjoying the experience.

I was just pointing out that it's lack of backward compatability does affect it's rate of adoption and is a factor that will influence its success in business. Legacy software and hardware requirements are the key reasons why my employers have no plans to switch to Vista in the next 3 or so years.
 
Yea i understand that but it does not make the OS any less perfect :p

Look i think for a business to switch to vista is very silly because there is no real advantage, although i think vista 64 bit is a big advantage due to the fact is very unlikely that it will get hit by a virus.
