Good on him, now if only his dear leader would do the same.

All the rats jumping the Trump ship.

Edit: Might see Trump claim that this was his doing.

Acting Navy secretary submits his resignation
Yesterday, leaked audio showed Thomas Modly calling the ousted commander of the USS Theodore Roosevelt 'stupid'

Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly has submitted his resignation a day after leaked audio revealed he called the ousted commander of the USS Theodore Roosevelt "stupid" in an address to the ship's crew, according to a US official and a former senior military official.

The Navy and Department of Defense did not respond to a request for comment.

On Monday, Modly told the crew of the Roosevelt that their former commander, Capt. Brett Crozier, was either "too naive or too stupid" to be in command or that he intentionally leaked a memo to the media, in which Crozier warned about coronavirus spreading aboard the aircraft carrier and urged action to save his sailors, according to remarks obtained by CNN.

Late Monday night, Modly apologized in a statement for calling Crozier "stupid" in his earlier remarks.
"Let me be clear, I do not think Captain Brett Crozier is naive nor stupid. I think, and always believed him to be the opposite," Modly said in his statement. "We pick our carrier commanding officers with great care. Captain Crozier is smart and passionate. I believe, precisely because he is not naive and stupid, that he sent his alarming email with the intention of getting it into the public domain in an effort to draw public attention to the situation on his ship. I apologize for any confusion this choice of words may have caused."

WASHINGTON (AP) — Official: Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly has submitted a letter of resignation to Defense Secretary Esper and told staff he is quitting after seeing a backlash for admonishing an ousted aircraft carrier commander.

The Navy’s acting secretary had been forced to apologize after a profanity-laden broadside in which he called the fired commander of the coronavirus-stricken USS Theodore Roosevelt "too naive or too stupid.”
Modly issued a written apology Monday hours after President Donald Trump, at a White House news conference, described his comments about Capt. Brett E. Crozier as “rough.”
Apologies if not the right thread, but in a good move Thomas Modly has resigned.

Good.

Important vote in the Wisconsin Supreme Court elections, 2020 today.

Conservatives currently have a 5 - 2 majority. This could turn into a 4-3 majority if it's lost today.

You haven't been following the absolute assault on democracy led by Republicans in Wisconsin, both in the legislature and the WI Supreme Court, I take it? And now supported by the conservatives in SCOTUS.

They refused to allow more people to mail in votes, refused to extend the deadline, refused to allow people who complied with a court ruling while it was in place to submit their votes, meaning they're disenfranchising tens of thousands of voters.

Reduced the voting stations in Milwaukee (which has a 1/3rd of the state's people) from 150 to 8. At least 111 polling stations don't have staff to operate at all.

Forcing people to choose between exercising their right to vote and public health, and then forcing them to cluster into so few locations is absolutely ludicrous.

Another strawman. The point was how do you reconcile the lockdown with the economic and societal devastation? As asked before, have you see the jobless claims? But sure, in Orbital's head I'm asking you to ignore it.

Cerebus addressed it, but you get worse economic and societal devastation if you don't contain the virus.

Thread is very long so not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but it seems like trump is about to do a zupta (with the congress sheep replacing the npa, and some behind the scenes republican replacing the guptas) on the recent trillion dollar bail out package.

He's been pretty clear about it. He thinks he can do whatever he wants and the Republican refusal to rein him in was always going to go this way.

Someone pointed out the other day that there hasn't been a policy issue on which Trump didn't defer to the GOP, and there's not been a corruption/incompetence issue where the GOP didn't defer to Trump.

Ok it sounds like now you're the one disregarding the experts on this. But sure, why not try an eased shutdown approach? I'm open for that, but the thing is you know what you need? Leadership and a strong plan that doesn't change day by day, and the backing of the Federal government and health experts. And not just one malignant narcissist bloviating about his ratings and attacking the press for asking difficult questions, and blaming everyone else and incapable of admitting when they've screwed up, and firing people who set off alarms.

The reality of the situation is that Trump f***ed up Coronavirus nearly worse than it's possible to f*** something up, given the resources at his disposal. He wasted so much time just hoping it wouldn't turn out to be as bad as all the experts said it would, for no other reason than that he wanted to protect his own election. By the time they turned around and admitted that it was a real problem, the damage was already done. He should have shut down the country 2 months ago when the first cases started to arrive, then deployed all his resources to preventing it from spreading inside the US.

At this point there's nothing much to do. The economy is inevitably going to suffer and I think it will be worse if you try an eased approach, but no matter what happens it's going to be ugly. While the rest of the world is slowly coming out of their economic shutdowns, America is only at the beginning.

No, this pandemic cannot be blamed on Trump, and no one is trying to blame him (that's only in his mind), but it sure as hell exposed his true colours, ........and that is turd colour.

He isn't to blame for the virus emerging in the US - no one would have been able to stop it.

He is to blame for the gobsmackingly terrible response to it.

Well laid out here:

Yea but what I wanted to highlight was the literal daylight robbery. For modern society, controlling money is almost as equally powerful as controlling governance (we have seen this before with zuma and the failed grab for treasury), and a couple trillion dollars with no oversight is a lot of unchecked control in deciding who lives comfortably and who suffers especially with an upcoming election assuming it isn't suspended, same tactic as the free t-shirts and kfc if you vote for a certain party. Maybe overly sensationalist, but a few reddit threads are busy exploding with people saying trump just became the first us dictator in the making.

Well said

A true Trumpette, Orange Zeus mattress.

New White House press secretary downplayed pandemic and said Democrats were rooting for coronavirus

New White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany repeatedly downplayed the threat of the coronavirus in comments made in February and March, a CNN KFile review has found.

In radio and television appearances, McEnany, in her role as spokeswoman for President Donald Trump's 2020 campaign, said the administration had the rapidly spreading coronavirus "under control" and said that because of travel restrictions enacted by the President, "we will not see diseases like the coronavirus come here."

She also said Democrats were "actively rooting against what's in the best interest of America," including rooting for coronavirus to take hold. She said coronavirus, like the Russia and Ukraine scandals, was being used to take down Trump.

"We will not see diseases like the coronavirus come here"
Speaking on Fox Business on February 25, McEnany said because of travel policies enacted by the President, coronavirus would not continue to come to the United States.

"This President will always put America first," she said. "He will always protect American citizens. We will not see diseases like the coronavirus come here. We will not see terrorism come here. And isn't that refreshing when contrasting it with the awful presidency of President Obama?"

Threatening to cut off funding to the WHO in the middle of a global pandemic is probably one of the most terrible things Trump has suggested. He is really desperate to shift the blame for this to anything or anyone else

It only makes sense that China should be the only country funding the WHO if they are going to be a propaganda arm of the Chinese government.

I find the whole saga fascinating.. there is literally 1000s of videos showing Trump talking BS, reports all showing he was informed but let’s shift blame..

If they re-elect them we finally know of voters dumber than our own at this point even when dying..

You know Trump limited travel from China to stop the spread of the virus back when the left still thought it was racist to do so.

The main complaint against him now is that he is too optimistic about the US's chances whilst still taking the appropriate action.

A handful full of other GOP lawmakers also jumped into the fight by demanding accountability from the WHO. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) reportedly said Tedros let Beijing use the organization to mislead the global public and called him “either complicit or dangerously incompetent.”
Starting in January, the WHO pushed Chinese propaganda by claiming they found no human-to-human transmission, which has proven to be a dangerously false and misleading statement.
