 , at which point have i ever posted joyously on the topic? I have been involved in this thread and similar ones for sometime now and ive consistently stated that Trump will win or lose based on the economy. This is just me continuing with that.

I think that it may be a new tactic by Trump supporters. When his critics point out certain awkward truths around coronavirus and the markets, his supporters accuse the critics of taking joy in the bad things that are happening.

Yip. The told you so, is now being strawmanned to, how dare you wish this upon us.

They're positively desperate to turn this around on Democrats/the libs somehow to deflect from Trump's incompetence. The playbook is already that if you don't slavishly praise Trump you're "talking the country down" and not being "patriotic".

Besides, no one is as hostile to working class Americans as Trump and his plutocracy. Who, in the midst of this crisis, are still trying to destroy the ACA and take away tens of millions of Americans' healthcare.

“They tried the impeachment hoax. ... They tried anything. ... And this is their new hoax,” Trump told the crowd.

“I’ve always known this was a real ― this is a pandemic,” Trump said at a press conference Tuesday. “I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic.”

There's something seriously wrong with this man.

Bet you didn't post anything about when the markets were going up, did you? The omission of posting certain information can be quite revealing in and of itself.

White House expresses support for making immediate cash payments to Americans as part of coronavirus stimulus package

The Trump administration expressed support on Tuesday for sending direct cash payments to Americans in the next two weeks as part of a massive economic stimulus package that is taking shape in Washington, something the White House hopes could stanch the economic free fall caused by the coronavirus.

“We’re looking at sending checks to Americans immediately,” Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said Tuesday. “And I mean now, in the next two weeks.”

The cash payment idea, which originated in Congress, is part of a roughly $1 trillion stimulus plan that the White House is trying to push into law as soon as possible. It could become one of the largest federal emergency fiscal packages ever assembled.

Some lawmakers, including Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) have discussed direct cash payments of $1,000 to Americans, something the lawmaker discussed with Mnuchin Monday night.
“That’s one of the ideas we like,” Mnuchin said Tuesday, without endorsing a specific dollar amount. He suggested there should be an income cut-off on the cash payments and that high-income households might not be eligible

Damn, I wish I lived in the US now! Beautiful extra $1000 (at the very least).

Actually i did, we have had numerous discussions here regarding the markets performance and its cause and effect. I also constantly said Trump was the favorite for reelection during that time.

Was that not Andrew Yang's idea?

Yeah that is what he was known for. I think it has a deeper point though - businesses are rightly worried and only way they can be sustainable is through people spending so it can be spun as that (assuming people spend rather than save).

I'd definitely institute a cut off though, maybe $200-$250k a year. Can't be giving millionaires free money!

When the stimulus and market injection get tallied up, I feel it would be a really, really, really good time to discuss why folk have been asking 'how will we pay for' a UBI, single-payer healthcare, cancelling student loan debt and a GND.

Hmmmm?

Naturally rich people don't really need it, but the point is to get the money circulating as soon as possible. Targeting takes time, effort and infrastructure to be put in place.

Getting it out fast is more important. Doesn't really matter if it goes to people who don't really need it, too.

It's unlikely to be a true UBI. Manchin has already mentioned an income limit. I'd expect he'd set it at the 'typical' household income for a family of four (parents + 2 kids).

What is GND?
