He is not a politician. He is a retired Naval officer who after leaving the Navy has worked in infectious disease relief organisations. Because of his work he was recognised by Bush and was appointed to be responsible for coordinating, managing and directing the department that led an anti-malaria initiative, which saw a 40% reduction in Malaria cases.

He had substantial experience and competence in dealing with global infectious diseases.

His role as Senior Director for Global Health Security and Biothreats, was completely abolished by Trump and Bolton.

Is it merely coincidence that the impotent response from the USA was exacerbated by the fact that the department in the government that was formed to respond to these types of issues was gutted?

Remembering that when Trump did this, he also instructed Congress to rescind the £252 Million of excess funds available for pandemic response, that was created by Obama.

I hear you bud. I used to have Peggie and Tyson both on ignore, and it was great. But I found that so many response posts to them didn't make sense which was even more annoying.
 
Everyone is an armchair quarterback on Monday mornings.

Asymptomatic people or people with really mild symptoms still spread the virus. There's no stopping it.
 
I skipped the WH rally last night, can only stand so much bullsh1t - but what were all those military types doing on stage ( and still not social distancing ).

What is wrong with having a Commission to review this?

Lessons learned on various other Commissions have helped the US better prepare for similar scenarios in the future to improve their response, learn what went wrong, what went right and fix the things did not work.

Nothing wrong with commission, it needs to be done, for us too, as you said, lessons learned for future etc
