Yet you simultaneously want the dear leader to lock everyone in their homes and restrict what goods and services they can and cannot buy.

And whilst the government is doing this, tell hem it is for their own good.

Like the Ramamessiah.

Oh please :D If Trump endorsed the shutdowns the bootlickers will slink back to their hovels

All right wingers come around eventually, don't they, Press Sec?

And that's the problem.

Simple education often fails, and folk need exit counselling to abandon the cult or... given evidence here... actual deprogramming.
I dont think you can deprogram them. Theyre the same people who were supporting bad things a decade ago. Debating online, no matter how good your points are, just entrenches them in their opinions.

So debating with them is pretty pointless, even if you are in the right, you will just confirm their beliefs.

Which is why I post in these sections less often. Its the same people I was debating a decade ago.

yep...totally agree.

Carry on clapping.
If you don't clap you are a traitor to the cause.
Traitors that don't clap for the NHS must be publicallly ousted.

I mean it's not as if people working there get paid or anything like that.
Your proto anarchist anti-government sentiments does cloud your sensibilities.

Clapping for the NHS was originated by ordinary citizens, who chose to express their gratitude to the people fighting this and saving lives on the frontline. Last time I checked, which was on the weekend, 60 healthcare workers had died from the virus.

Nobody gives a damn if you don't clap. It is a gesture of goodwill and thanks. Clapping doesn't save lives, or magically bring PPE and ventilators, it is just a way people can express their thanks.

As much as you want to strawman the lockdown to tyranny, it is not.

Why not clap for the people who are involved in generating electricity that the NHS needs. Or being forced to pay for the taxes that fund the NHS?

Point is people are treating the NHS like a religion which is above all criticism. Which is why I was telling the person to clap.

As much as you want to strawman the lockdown to tyranny, it is not.
In South Africa, it is full tyranny.
Here is a government minister harassing a citizen for not having a permit to buy food:
And other countries are dangerously close.
Like asking people to report their neighbours to the government for breaking an arbitrary set of rules.

Or spying on people doing the dangerous activity of walking outside

But carry on. The government loves you. Show your love back by clapping for the NHS.

If it was full tyranny in SA, it would remain so after the virus dissipates.

Do you really think the ANC will carry on?

Yes.
This is a party that has no problem with the state stealing land from people. I don't know why you would think they wouldn't keep their bans in place. Expecially when you have ministers expressly pointing out that they want the bans to remain in place.

All they do is declare that in the interest of public health, alcohol and smoking products are hereby banned, as that is exactly the same sort of legislation they have passed now. Since the framework of constitutional law around limiting basic rights is pathetic (they use a hodgepodge of what other countries use), it would most likely fall to the moral sensitivities of the judges, which means that they will likely enforce the ban.

Case in point is the ban on prostitution. If you read SA's constitution, it would be obvious that it places high value on individual freedoms and the right to work, which means that prostitutes should be allowed to work legally. Yet that didn't stop the constitutional court from banning prostitution by looking at what other countries did.

Its easy for uneducated people to fall for the cult of personality. Theyre in a cult, they just dont realize it yet.

You mean the same people that fell for the Obama Messiah cult of personality hook, line and sinker. Yeah those same people.
But now that their man isn't in office anymore, those same Obama sycophants point fingers at Trump supporters like they are somehow any different  Quite hilarious really. All one can do is shake your head and smile. You lot are no different, I suggest you take a long look in the mirror.

Because none of those people are putting their lives in direct danger by taking care of the people crowding their workplaces with the sickness. I can't quite believe you're this dense but it seems like you really are.

There are online guides about human psychology and online debates that are pretty useful. They recommend not quoting someone to correct them. It just entrenches them further. Make a separate post to express your view.

I think they have seen how hard it is to restrict some sections of the population. They most likely will keep restrictions on the populations they can though.

This lockdown has made it very clear there are people here who are just a bunch of commies at heart loving all this and support people like cele to the death. Next they've demand mandatory re-education programs and such for the 'wrong thinkers' ;)

You're dealing with some who wants capitalism in its most pure form, they don't give a crap about lives.
In fact he stated that they should pay more for their own health insurance because of their greater risk. Like that is somehow an acceptable outcome for a society comprising of decent people. It isn't.

Call me a bleeding heart idealist but I actually WANT to subsidize those high risk workers with my premiums, even if it means I pay more. I WANT them to not be priced right out of the market.

So what, you cant tell someone they are doing a good job because they are getting paid? You must make for excellent management.
