He also hasnt won over the progressive base in the democrats. While many people supported Bernie, they are not voting on the cult of personality. They are issues focused people. Biden is not speaking to those issues. I dont believe he stands a chance without that very large progressive base.
That's an interesting statement, because it implies that hardcore progressives would rather not vote, and thereby hand the election to Trump, than vote for Biden.
It just seems madness to me.
They see Biden as more of the same. They might feel the chance of a progressive in the white house could be bigger against 8 years of Trump than trying against Biden in 4 years.
If you not going to talk to their issues, expect 4 more years of Trump.
Progressives are not on the Biden bus at the moment.
He should be getting someone like AOC or even Warren as his veep... and yesterday already.
I just find that lunacy, because Biden may not be as progressive as Bernie, but he is closer to a progressive than Trump is.
Anyway, I'll let the Democrat voters do what they want to do - I'm closer to a Republican myself. But if I were a Democrat, I'd feel outraged that fellow Democrats would rather have Trump win than Biden.
EDIT: If anything, I'd see it as dangerous to allow Trump to win a second term. Because it reinforces his legitimacy.
When Trump ran, nobody believed he would win. They thought he was a buffoon (to be fair, he is a buffoon). But he won anyway.
If he wins a second term, it sends the message that American voters could support his style of leadership. That means that it will shift the tone of the debate of the 2024 presidential election.
If Trump had not won in 2016, I think US politics would be further to the Left than they currently are.

Progressives understand the stakes here. The existential threat is squatting in the White House... Nothing happens 'till he's gone.
Joe's been signalling all the right things for progressives and Bernie and Liz have endorsed him. Hell, AOC says she'll vote for him.
Progressives can work with Joe.

He is still not talking to progressive issues. Sure he may get some votes from the "anyone but Trump" crowd, but progressives are more interested in getting their issues on the table.
To give you an idea of how out of touch Biden is, he has not even reached out to speak to someone like AOC.
I get the argument "anyone but Trump", but for a lot of young voters... theyre more interested in dealing with issues such as their student loans and universal health care.
Hating on Trump is not going to bring many of those voters to the table. It didnt the last time.

I don't know, before the corona crisis, my opinion was that Trump would walk to easy victory in the upcoming election.
However, with the death toll and economic conditions now in the USA, ol Biden actually has a shot at winning.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to argue with you. I appreciate you explaining this to me. It just baffles me - its almost selfish!
Like, if I was a progressive, I'd think there was a greater chance that I could get the things I wanted out of a Biden government than a Trump government.
Let's face it - no way Trump will provide those things to the youth. Biden - small chance, but possible.

Trump wasn't the one who held up the stimulus bill needed to save the American economy - that was Pelosi. The point of the advert was, she holds up the bill saving Americans while having all the luxuries one could ever want.

Biden has made it clear where he stands on these issues, and its not with the progressives. He has already said he would veto universal health care. That didnt wooh over the progressives. The only reason a progressive would vote for Biden is because they are part of the "anyone but Trump" crowd.

It's ignoring the facts of what happened and why the bill was delayed. There were serious negotiations on both sides. Senate republicans and Trump were trying to turn it into a slush fund and remove any oversight. In the end Trump still removed the oversight that was placed on the fund.

The drive to speed the bill through the Senate was slowed as four conservative Republican senators demanded changes.
In reality that ad is just propaganda. From my perspective on how the bill progressed, the problem wasn't from Pelosi.

Not sure about that. I believe Trump has already lost Michigan (only won it by 6000 votes) which is 16 electoral votes, given the strong performance of Democrats in 2018 elections, including the decisive victory for the Governor's race. Also the Michigan's governer's approval ratings are far above that of Trump in the state. Biden was also born in the very working-class suburb of Scranton, Pennsylvania. Although he didn't ever represent Pennsylvania in the Senate, it's likely there will be a "home boy" effect for Biden, which would add up to another 20 electoral votes for Biden. Then he'd only need to win one of Wisconsin or Arizona. Not going to pick up Ohio. Florida and North Carolina might be slightly out of reach as the former is trending Republican and Trump had a clear victory in NC...
I'm also not aware of an incumbent US president winning in a year in which there is seismic negative economic shock.
He might win without full progressive backing. It would be close but he might. Hillary came so close.
With full progressive backing he would be unstoppable. But he doesnt have that.
