I can't say whether their bombing tendencies would dissipate or not if the US were to just leave but I don't see how they can continue doing it if the US leave. We're talking about how the situation can be fixed now, post-Saddam. But to answer, I don't really know how I would've dealt with him. Like you told theStudent, anything could've happened if he was assassinted.

Actually if he had been assassinated IMO he would have just been replaced by a lieutenant or god forbid one of his sons. That would mean just more of the same. Another scenario is there could have been a power struggle in which case the whole place would have disintegrated.

The point being that if you critisize current policies you obviously must have at least some idea of a policy you consider better and I'm interested to hear what they may be.

Well I'm just an ordinary guy on the street. I don't have deep insights into the inner workings of Iraq and I'll be honest, I have no clue which policies would benefit the country most right now. But neither does Bush, in his press conferences all I hear is "we've gotta stay the course" twaddle and it's pretty clear he himself doesn't know what his doing.

Good example is the withdrawal of US ground forces from South Vietnam during the early 70s.

Despite massive military aid to the ARVN forces and US air support , all went FUBAR once US ground forces left Vietnam.

The US needs to stay in Iraq and somehow make things better.

I beg to differ slightly. I think if he were assassinated that would instill fear. The next leader would have to tread lightly if he/she does not want the same fate.

Better yet don't assassinate him, shoot him with a high powered rifle in the hip. He would live with that pain for the rest of his life

My view is that the term, 'Islamophobia', is a bigoted and dishonest term advocating ignorance to legitimate criticism of Islam.

Actually, legitimate criticism of Islam is merely legitimate criticism. Criticism based on the irrational fear that they're going to come kill us all/convert us all would be the latter.

Maybe one day you'll learn to distinguish the two. You'll definitely be doing yourself a favour. Irrational arguments tend to put people off.
