US Open - Serena Williams

I actually felt she had an excuse the last time, and can also understand if she was unaware that she could lose a point, but knowing she was on probation and still abusing officials is just reckless and she deserves suspension. She ruined her come back, she is actually lucky that she will be able to participate in other grand slams. I thought I was the only one awake to watch it this morning.

Unless I totally wasnt listening correctly...

I don't think you were listening correctly :D, she said something to the effect of giving the other chick the point, no replay. There was another similar incident just prior to that in the same competition where a penalty point was awarded for the same behaviour by another player.

She deserves to have the balance of the previous fine of $175000 reinstated, together with a $300000 fine for a second offense which is severely exacerbated by the ongoing insulting of the umpire.

One of the commentators refused to say that the outburst could not have been deliberately made in order to put her opponent off. In the light of her attitude it seems very likely that she was trying to turn the match by means other that striking a ball with a racquet.

Lol like I predicted, no way in hell can they suspend her. They need her for the viewers. People love Drama, good or bad. I mean for an entire thread to be made about her instead of a thread about Stosur WINNING the championship speaks for itself.

Good choice by the USTA. Now lets see who wins between Novak and Nadal. My money is in on Nadal, he just looks too much in form right now but I know Novak can beat Nadal on this court, this is about to be sweet. I hope its another 5-setter.

So she displays an ignorance of the rules of her sport.
Takes a jab at the umpire of an incident that the umpire was not involved in.
Spends a fair amount of time verbally abusing the umpire, albeit fairly mildly.
Makes no apology.
And to top it off, defends her actions by claiming not to remember doing it.
Brilliant athlete she may be, but sportswoman she is not.

While I understand the logic, it's a pity she got off so lightly. All it will do is reaffirm her attitude that she is bigger than the sport.

And she threw such a strop on the very last day of her probation for doing the exact same thing 2 years ago. This incident has resulted in a $2k fine, however I hope the WTA ban her to some extent for this. Although I do enjoy watching her make such a pompous fool of herself live on tv...:o
