Why does justice have a shelf life? Is it that unfathomable that a person might be willing to move on from a crime against them but then decide that the person who did it shouldn't be in a position where their ethics and morality will shape the country for years to come?
It doesn't. But the timing and method points to alterior motives which brings the claims into question and makes light of real sexual assault cases.

Kavanaugh also didn't just appear out of nowhere. As a supreme court judge he will likely have less power because it is a panel of judges and he needs to make decisions about the constitution. He can't just act on a whim and do what he wants.

Little bit judgmental I see....

Traumatic incidents tend to stick with you - I can still remember the particulars of splitting my head open when I was 7, also the car accident i was involved in when I was 10 - some of the details might have been lost but the incident itself is very clear.

Trauma memories – like all memories – are malleable and prone to distortion. Indeed, there is growing evidence – from both field and lab-based studies – to suggest that the memory distortion follows a particular pattern. People tend to remember more trauma than they experienced, and those who do, tend to exhibit more of the “re-experiencing” symptoms associated with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Our own research suggests that the likely mechanism underlying that distortion is a failure in people’s source monitoring. After a traumatic experience, intentional remembering (effortful retrieval) and unintentional remembering (intrusive mental imagery) can introduce new details that, over time, assimilate into a person’s memory for the event. We believe that understanding the role these factors play in distorting people’s memories for traumatic experiences is both theoretically and practically important, particularly given their potential role in influencing people’s recovery
.

Some therapists, as well as other commentators, have suggested that memories of horrific trauma are buried in the subconscious by some special process, such as repression, and are later reliably recovered. We find that the evidence provided to support this claim is flawed. Where, then, might these memory reports come from? We discuss several research paradigms that have shown that various manipulations can be used to implant false memories--including false memories for traumatic events. These false memories can be quite compelling for those who develop them and can include details that make them seem credible to others. The fact that a memory report describes a traumatic event does not ensure that the memory is authentic.

And another compelling reason why we need to enforce timeous justice and counselling because trauma potentially increases over time.

It's like pulling the race card. It will lose it's power if the lefties keep on using it as a political tool.
And once the other side gets in on the action you won't be able to take the victims seriously anymore and you'll sit with a moral delema. But carry on.

cerebus, I do not take direction from you so do not try give me instructions in any form or manner. I am free to express whatever opinion I want as long as it fits within the rules of this forum. These issues will be raised in the Senate hearing, and is therefore applicable to US politics. I refer you to the thread title. Stop trying to shut me down. If you feel I am incorrect, report me to the moderators. I will graciously accept whatever comments they make if they deem it necessary.

Lol now I'm trying to shut you down? What a snowflake. I'm just not willing to derail the topic, but you can carry on as you were.

Yeah, the still visible scar above my eyebrow says that my memory of the incident is pretty accurate.

Your scar is proof of an accident taking place. Nothing more.

You didn't even bother to read and try understand what I posted. This is a waste of my time.

Now you are just throwing ad hominem attacks against me. Expected you to rise to something of better quality.

So you are telling me that my memory of the incident is inaccurate just because you read it in a study? Just because the memory of traumatic incidents can be distorted doesn't mean that all of them are..

You understand that if your accident led to a criminal or civil case your memory would be subject to corroboration and credibility checks, right? I am not saying your memory is correct or incorrect. I am saying that memories are one very small portion of the overall picture.

The timing might be political given that she gave the info to a dem to begin with. But that may just be that she felt it was the only way she could get justice. It could also be that she sees this guy rising to the top and remembers what he'd done to her and is thinking, that can't be right.

Personally I feel what people did in their misspent youth shouldn't come back to haunt them in this manner. At least he groping not sure she should have let the rape go unreported so long. What we do in our youth should stay there unless it continues on in our adult life, people make mistakes and people mature out of that youth. Unless she's pursuing a purely criminal matter, it really should have a bearing on his career. It should only matter if she feels he's the same slimeball he was as a teen today and therefore unsuitable for assuming a position in the supreme court.

I think you're wrong about his power, the way the US appoint those judges matter as depending on who is in power, they tend to try stack the bench in the favour of the party in power. It's an opportunity they can't let pass as it only comes once in a lifetime given the tenure in that court.

Oh you did? Ok. Sorry to disappoint. Look, I'm really bored so I'm just going to ignore anything you say that doesn't immediately relate to US politics and Justice Kavanaugh's impending appointment to the Supreme Court.

Please. By all means go right ahead. Your comments won't be missed. Maybe you should join the Twitteratti and carry on your moral outrage there as you will have more buddies to back you up.

Of course, and I agree - the incident as related needs to be corroborated or measured against similar behavior, her memory alone might not be enough to convict, but if she gives a compelling account and he doesn't it might be enough.

Rudy Giuliani Photographed With White Nationalist Mayoral Candidate

It's so weird that Alan and co didn't bring this up  Normally he loves posting things where a politician meets someone of questionable character.. Or maybe they don't find this behaviour that questionable? Who knows..

Goldy has cultivated extensive ties with white supremacist groups and personalities, and regularly deploys their rhetoric. She went to the fatal Charlottesville white supremacist march in August 2017 as a correspondent for right-wing Canadian outlet Rebel Media, but was fired from the site after discussing the event on a show hosted by neo-Nazi website The Daily Stormer.

Later in 2017, Goldy recited the “14 Words," a white nationalist slogan, during a live-streamed interview. Goldy has since called the “14 Words” a “simple statement of survival.” This year, she urged her fans to read a Romanian fascist leader’s book about eliminating “the Jewish menace.”

Oh, just a thought. You do realize that snowflakes have been ones that have traditionally shut down debate because discussions triggered them? Not only have I triggered you, but you are trying to shut down my discussion and demand that I take it out of "your" space. I think you should take that insult and direct it the other way.

Bloody hell, I've never seen someone as triggered as you are.

Two men have come forward to tell Senate investigators they, not Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh, could have been responsible for the encounter Christine Blasey Forddescribes when she says she was sexually assaulted at a high school party 36 years ago.

The Judiciary Committee Republican staff did not release any details about the men, but said each had been interviewed, and one had provided a written statement.

Each of the men described “in some detail” their recollection of their encounter with Ms. Blasey Ford, the GOP staff said in a memo late Wednesday, less than 12 hours before Ms. Blasey Ford is slated to testify about her memories of the assault.
