If your little white boy wanted to blacken up his face, I hope you, a socially aware adult, would explain why it's inappropriate and it might hurt the feelings of the black children in his classroom. Children can do that stuff. My little boy once told a black child in our car that he thinks black people are disgusting, it caused an enormous offense and I was mortified. But it was a good opportunity for a conversation.

Why do you lot assume freedom of speech is freedom from the consequences of said speech? - If she was being put in jail for expressing her opinion then you might have a point but using a platform that her employer provides her doesn't give her freedom to say any random stuff that comes into her head without consequences.

How does an idea become mainstream? By talking about it, and spreading it. When people cannot freely and openly express opinions, then ideas are shut out, and those that are the loudest (and the ones that can wield the wooden spoon) are the only ones that are heard, and the ones that are adopted because there are no balanced views. Do you understand that is bad for everyone?

We don't celebrate Halloween as it is not a South African thing. But, if I were to go to a costume party, and I wanted to dress up as a famous black person, I would. I am not being racist, but actually showing my admiration for a famous person. I wouldn't paint my face. I would use a mask.

If she gets ask her opinion on a panel discussion she should be allowed to voice any opinion no matter how racist without consequence. What is the point of panel discussions if it is just a circlejerk.

Because I wouldn't want paint on my face as it is impractical for a party, and bad for the skin. This line of questioning is stupid and completely irrelevant.

I actually agree that she shouldn't have been fired, the idea that certain news station only having people with prescribed viewpoints is just silly. I do not however think that her getting fired for saying it is an infringement on her freedom of speech.

What is wrong with you? It's like you are in a constant triggered state and look for offense. I hope to whatever gods are out there you are not in any position of leadership or management, because you would cost the company a lot of money.

Fired for painting my face black. Or... at least strongly cautioned. At last year's Halloween party the CEO came dressed as someone that some people interpreted to be Harvey Weinstein and it caused a huge ****storm.

The police had nothing to do with it - she is a public face of that network, if the network feels that what she said might affect revenue or sponsors they have every right to fire her - I don't think they should but it is their right and she is still welcome to hold that position regardless of whether she has that job or not.
