Cambridge Analytica offices searched over data storage

Eighteen enforcement officers working for the UK's information commissioner are searching the London headquarters of Cambridge Analytica.

The High Court granted the data watchdog a warrant amid claims the firm amassed information about millions of people without their consent, based on a 2014 personality quiz on Facebook.

It is part of a wider investigation into political campaigning.

Ain't that something. Breitbart 'reporters' were involved in a scheme to try and bribe a lawyer representing one of Moore's accusers.

Attorney says Roy Moore supporters offered him $10,000 to drop client who accused the Senate candidate of sexual impropriety

Days after a woman accused U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore of sexual impropriety, two Moore supporters approached her attorney with an unusual request.

They asked lawyer Eddie Sexton to drop the woman as a client and say publicly that he did not believe her. The damaging statement would be given to Breitbart News, then run by former White House strategist Stephen K. Bannon.

In exchange, Sexton said in recent interviews, the men offered to pay him $10,000 and promised to introduce him to Bannon and others in the nation’s capital. Parts of Sexton’s account are supported by recorded phone conversations, text messages and people in whom he confided at the time.

...

Sexton said he arrived at the Pelham office and joined Lantrip and Davi in a conference room. He said Lantrip told him that they had the money for him. Boyle, Breitbart’s Washington bureau chief, soon joined them, he said. Minutes later, Aaron Klein, Breitbart’s Jerusalem bureau chief walked in, Sexton said.

Public Troubled by ‘Deep State’
Few Americans (13%) are very familiar with the term “Deep State;” another 24% are somewhat familiar, while 63% say they are not familiar with this term. However, when the term is described as a group of unelected government and military officials who secretly manipulate or direct national policy, nearly 3-in-4 (74%) say they believe this type of apparatus exists in Washington.

Looks like the Americans believe they are being screwed over by unelected officials but they appear to be too cowardly to act on their beliefs. Or they just don't care. Or they are just too stupid.

Im not sure that is entirely true or fair, over the years we have seen widespread protests against the well known lobbyist groups. The problem is who do you vote for? Trump was voted in because he supposedly wouldn't be swayed by lobbyists, well that's clearly not the case as evidenced by a number of his appointments and bills. Even if you do get a president who stands strong against them, you still have all the other leaders in all the other states to deal with.

One way is to support people that oppose the Citizens United ruling and want to reform campaign finance laws. There are also a number of people who refuse corporate PAC contributions (think Conor Lamb did).

Doesn't fix the lobbyist issue directly, but it's part of the same problem.

It's a pity the original thread was locked just because some snowflakes got tired of the debate, but the March for Our Lives protests this weekend have been quite spectacular.

Hundreds of thousands of people out on the streets across the US in numbers not seen since the 60s.

Oh you must think this whole anti-gun thing is organic, from the people and without deep state and/or lobbyist influence. How naive.

Oh paid actors despite there being no evidence to suggest so. How naive.

Crisis actor activists making a quick buck from tragedies and getting (in)famous without wanting to implement practical changes. Check this Hogg character's response to the school’s clear backpack policy.
