(C) $10,000,000 shall be made available for support of a
multi-partner trust fund or other multilateral efforts to
assist communities in Haiti affected by cholera resulting from
the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti: Provided,
That prior to the obligation of such funds, the Secretary of
State shall ensure that mechanisms are in place for monitoring,
oversight, and control of such funds: Provided further, That
such funds shall be subject to prior consultation with, and the
regular notification procedures of, the Committees on
Appropriations.
(2) Funds made available pursuant to this subsection are in
addition to funds otherwise made available for such purposes.
(3) Funds made available pursuant to this subsection under the
headings ``Global Health Programs'' and ``International Disaster
Assistance'' may be transferred to, and merged with, funds made
available under such headings: Provided, That such transfer authority
is in addition to any other transfer authority provided by law.
(4) The amounts repurposed under this subsection are designated by
the Congress as an emergency requirement pursuant to section
251(b)(2)(A)(i) of the Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control
Act of 1985 and shall be available only if the President subsequently
so designates all such amounts and transmits such designations to the
Congress.

John Oliver's gay rabbit book parody outsells Mike Pence's original on Amazon

The comedian and host of HBO’s Last Week Tonight put together a children’s book to troll Vice President Mike Pence, documenting a day in the life of Pence’s family pet bunny Marlon Bundo. (Charlotte Pence, daughter of the vice president, also put out a book about the rabbit, but Oliver’s takes a decidedly different tone, making the main figure gay.)

And although it was just released this week, Oliver’s book is rapidly outpacing Pence’s in sales. In fact, it’s already temporarily out of stock on Amazon. Vanity Fair reports it has sold over 180,000 copies, and has more on backorder, according to the New York Post.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver Presents a Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo is actually written by Last Week Tonight staffer Jill Twiss with illustrations by EG Keller. It follows a day in the life of fluffy creature Bundo as he discovers a romantic partner — a boy bunny — and they ultimately tie the knot. That storyline is meant to oppose Pence’s stated policy positions to LGBT rights including marriage equality.

More than 15,000 Americans were losing their jobs each day in June 2009, as the US struggled to climb out of a painful recession following its worst financial crisis in decades.

But Jay Sekulow, who is now an attorney to Donald Trump, had a private jet to finance. His law firm was expecting a $3m payday. And six-figure contracts for members of his family needed to be taken care of.

Documents obtained by the Guardian show Sekulow that month approved plans to push poor and jobless people to donate money to his Christian nonprofit, which since 2000 has steered more than $60m to Sekulow, his family and their businesses.

Telemarketers for the nonprofit, Christian Advocates Serving Evangelism (Case), were instructed in contracts signed by Sekulow to urge people who pleaded poverty or said they were out of work to dig deep for a “sacrificial gift”.

A top fundraiser for President Donald Trump received millions of dollars from a political adviser to the United Arab Emirates last April, just weeks before he began handing out a series of large political donations to U.S. lawmakers considering legislation targeting Qatar, the UAE’s chief rival in the Persian Gulf, an Associated Press investigation has found.

George Nader, an adviser to the UAE who is now a witness in the U.S. special counsel investigation into foreign meddling in American politics, wired $2.5 million to the Trump fundraiser, Elliott Broidy, through a company in Canada, according to two people who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter. They said Nader paid the money to Broidy to bankroll an effort to persuade the U.S. to take a hard line against Qatar, a long-time American ally but now a bitter adversary of the UAE.

A month after he received the money, Broidy sponsored a conference on Qatar’s alleged ties to Islamic extremism. During the event, Republican Congressman Ed Royce of California, the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, announced he was introducing legislation that would brand Qatar as a terrorist-supporting state.

In July 2017, two months after Royce introduced the bill, Broidy gave the California congressman $5,400 in campaign gifts — the maximum allowed by law. The donations were part of just under $600,000 that Broidy has given to GOP members of Congress and Republican political committees since he began the push for the legislation fingering Qatar, according to an AP analysis of campaign finance disclosure records.
