Trump says he’ll punish ‘the people of Canada’ because of Trudeau’s news conference

WASHINGTON and OTTAWA—Escalating his attack on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, U.S. President Donald Trump is now pledging to punish “the people of Canada” economically because of the post-G7 news conference in which Trudeau criticized Trump’s tariffs.

“That’s going to cost a lot of money for the people of Canada. He learned. You can’t do that. You can’t do that,” Trump said Tuesday in Singapore after meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

So, Kim Jong Un is a very tough smart leader, but Canadians need to be punished because Justin Trudeau made some spicy comments. What the hell, just what the hell?

I think you have to look at who those comments are for. I would bet those NK comments are to try and reduce the anti-US sentiment there, and to placate their fears of regime change.

The moose people on the other hand have dug this hole themselves.
Here in Vancouver, most of the dairy in my local supermarket is produced by dairy companies based in Quebec, some 2,100 miles east. I can buy a half gallon of milk from the Agropur dairy cooperative of Longueuil for $2.85, or get a 16-ounce bottle of “Milk-to-Go” from Saputo Inc. (Saint-Laurent, Quebec) for $2.31. Buying a pound of Agropur butter costs $4.87, while 1.5 pounds of Saputo cheddar will set me back $9.74.

These prices are, as the U.S. president might say, terrible deals. Less than an hour’s drive south, comparable products sell for half as much in the United States, which has led to the preposterous spectacle of cheap Canadians crossing the border on milk and cheese runs, propping up the economies of border towns such as Point Roberts, Wash.

Do you think trade agreements around services really are a policy issue for the Trump (or Trudeau for that matter) administration? I don't think so.

Most, if not all the of the debate around free trade agreements is around goods because of the way goods affect the prospects for lower class jobs. I don't see much rhetoric these days about protecting the interests of accountants and engineers with tariffs on services rendered.

Considering your post was about dairy, my response was directed at that. However to answer your question, yes i know Trump is obsessed with 1800s industry. Services are important as well though.

Trump is the one obsessed, yet Canada is the party with the tariffs on farming.

Services are important as well though.
For the economy as a whole. Not so much for the working class. Which is the critical point of the whole debate.

So the DOJ report says Comey erred but he "wasn't politically motivated". Seriously. It says that.

Reopening the investigation eleven days before the election *hurt* Hillary.... Wait, wait, let me check first... Yep, confirmed, Donald J Trump won the election.

How do Trumpites do the math from conspiracy to hurt Trump to him actually winning the election? Hold it, what am I saying? It's the IG report day... Hot-takes on any semi-suitable minutiae that seem to prop up the golden idol incoming.

Horowitz "concluded" there was no political bias from Strzok and Page. What a curious trio.

New York files lawsuit against Trump and his charity over 'persistently illegal conduct'

The New York attorney general is suing Donald Trump and his foundation, alleging the charity has engaged in “illegal conduct”.

Attorney general Barbara Underwood announced the lawsuit would be against the Donald J Trump Foundation, as well as its directors Mr Trump and his three adult children: sons Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump, and his daughter Ivanka Trump, who is a White House adviser.

The petition alleges “a pattern of persistent illegal conduct occurring over more than a decade”.

“As our investigation reveals, the Trump Foundation was little more than a chequebook for payments from Mr. Trump or his businesses to nonprofits, regardless of their purpose or legality,” Ms Underwood said in a statement. “This is not how private foundations should function and my office intends to hold the Foundation and its directors accountable for its misuse of charitable assets.”

Beyond the campaign, the lawsuit alleges that the foundation made at least five unlawful payments that benefited businesses of Mr Trump’s. Those include a $100,000 payment to settle claims against Mr Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, a $158,000 payment to settle claims against the Trump National Golf Club in 2008, and a $10,000 charity auction purchase of a painting of Mr Trump that was later hung in Trump National Doral in Miami — which The Washington Post notably reported on during the campaign. After the attorney general investigation began, the statement says, Mr Trump’s foundation paid excise tax on at least three of those payments and that Mr Trump reimbursed costs for others.

And here's rietrot to tell us why this is a good thing:
