US protests/riots 2020

Accountability for exercising your free speech rights?

People should be free to exercise their right to assembly and protest without fear of intimidation or arrest by the state. Free speech is a thing you know.

a double edged sword.

just as it enables someone to spread truth without fear of intimidation.

it enables someones to spread lies without fear of consequence.

Free speech yes, right to protest yes. Riot no. You might need to look up the difference.

Also hate speech is not really a thing if there is free speech. SA doesn't really have free speech.

And it is not the government or police's job to figure out which ones are the dangerous lies and, thus, punishable. Slippery slope to fascism.

Free speech vs. hate speech

so not free speech then, just ever so slightly limited speech.

if you are free to say something nasty to someone, they should be free to say something nasty back to you.

if you promote harm for someone via speech, they should be able to do the same to you.

that is freedom of speech.

then. what happens when we have groups of people advocating harm towards each other. pewpew

Then arrest the rioters and those who destroy property. Leave the protestors alone. Let me remind you that I objected to your post on the basis that is explicitly called for arresting "all protestors".

It's their job to keep citizens safe. They are not safe while "protesters" like these normalize and call for harm against police. You just need one deranged person to listen to their rhetoric to kill someone. Then as they say the blood is on your hands. Unfortunately their ranks are full of deranged people.

Also a nice quote. "People choose safety over freedom"

Again "all protesters" in this case were those at the hospital shouting "Hope you die" etc and blocking ambulances.

And the reason for the 3 strikes are that the same protesters travel the country to other places and cause chaos there as well. At the moment they are just caught and released without charges. So they end up delegitimise actual peaceful protests.

Since when were you concerned with arresting rioters who destroy property? Just the other day you were cheering them on when they were smashing up Clicks. Or do your morals vary depending on the continent in question?

And that doesn't involve policing people's free speech rights. remember these cops are trigger happy thugs.

That is a false story spread by #BLM activists.

Police are normal people doing an extremely dangerous and unrewarding job.

edit : a only limitation on free speech is not hate speech, but in fact incitement to violence.

Unsavory, yes, but that still doesn't give the police the right to limit free speech and protest.

This happened in 2014 as well after a lot of rhetoric on social media and amplified by no nothing celebrities 2 cops were shot to death in their squad car. Not that it matters, but both were POC. The shooter said "1 of ours 2 of yours".

Now we're seeing the cycle happen again with the same rhetoric being spread. And idiot sports celebrities donning the names of criminals on their helmets as if they were victims.

you sure about that?

so like fraudsters and con artists should not be pursued by the law

Arrest the guys who shot the police. Do not use that as a pretext to "arrest all protestors"
Well, how did that work out to date since this little tirade started before the cops were called in?

Peaceful fiery protestors. There we are back again impinging upon the rights of others.

Funny how some animals are "more equal" than the other animals.
The "more equal" animals claim the right to exercise their human rights, but don't give a damn about the human rights of the other animals.
Not only do the "more equal" animals disregard the human rights of the other animals, they actively trample all over it.
Selfish pigs.
Mindless dimwits.
