Shhh. He knows what it’s really like because he’s watched Escape From New York and the Walking Dead. This is common sense and not sure what's your point.
OP was in a dilemma and i after he provided good news, i just gave another example of how the US Embassy is delaying another.
Your FYI is more of an IMO , as i have been there many times and always enjoy my visits.
we need visas the countries don't want us to stay illegally in the countries that's why we have to go through so Manny hoops. It's so ridiculous that South Africans even need visas in the first place. We have Home Affairs to thank for that.
When applying for Schengen, you may motivate for a much longer visa ( 2 years ).Mate gota an interview in 2 weeks, from there it takes another week or two to get your passport back. The one massive advantage is the US visa is 10 years while most European Visas are 3-6 months.
What exactly sucks? So then... many other places to go, with far less visa drama.

Im guessing the passport didnt have his visa on it? If so then maybe there is something missing in his application document pack. I was asked to leave my passport behind after my interview and it was couriered with 2 days with the visa on it.My buddy had an interview waiver, but then was refused.
He applied in Feb, got the refused notice in April.
Had to go for an interview, which he got within a week, got there and they asked him 2 questions which he already provided when applying, and they told him what he already knew i.e application under administrative processing.
He told me last week they DHL'd his passport back to him and the application is still under administrative processing.
Dont know what these clowns look for , to approve visa's.
