US XBOX Live account in SA

They've removed the region restrictions (not sure if it's just games, or everything), so I think you should be ok.

I think that you will still have a problem unless you use a VPN.

I think the region restrictions were just removed for games.

Yeah, I run UnoDNS all the time anyway for Netflix, so that's fine.
I'm just wondering about the actual credit card.

I think the region restrictions were in place because of media content so a VPN might be a must if you want to watch the NBA

XBO will not be streaming for free. It mostly functions as an overlay for your set top box. It will have apps (some of which that are official) that tracks stuff like fantasy leagues. Those apps may be blocked depending on location, but I wouldn't completely understand why unless it's a service not provided in South Africa, like Netflix.

XBO is also not region locked anymore.

Ok so the XBOX will only be usable on the regions listed here: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/pre-order-xbox-one/disclaimer which ofcourse doesn't include us.
A simple fix is to switch my Live account to the US from SA.
But what about purchases? Do our local cards (I'm FNB) work for overseas live accounts?

my fnb card cheque card works fine , sure my CC will also.

i switched to s.a to usa for netflix also , just remember you need to have unotelly active to claim your free xbox 360 game , current free game is fable 3, next month is AC 2 and halo 3.

I had totally forgotten about the free games.
Thanks, didn't know SA cards would work :)

EDIT: Using my SA live account I was able to download fable. Also, I used a throwaway US account to install Netflix, and now launch it with my SA account that has gold.

Hey hereticangel

I'm hoping you might be able to guide me in the right direction. I'm currently using a US account, and seem to be having some trouble when trying to download Fable3 (problably due to an IP check). I take it you managed to download Fable 3, by using unotelly, and then purchasing/downloading it through xbox.com?

*Edit*
I signed up for a 7-day trial to Unotelly, added dns settings to xbox, tried to 'purchase' fable3 again, but it still gave me "Can't download / wrong region" error. Blaaaah.

Unotelly only supports certain sites with their dns offering. You'll need to purchase their vpn offering most likely for anything not listed.

Hi all,
So, will I still need to get a Xbox Live membership in order to use UnoTelly?
R50 for Xbox Live and R50 for UnoTelly Gold....?

Xbox live is the front end.
You need it regardless of the DNS.
It is for the online functionality.
