I'm earning R11 500.00 after deductions and medical aid. What can I do with this salary? I do not have a house, I do not have a car, I stay with my parents

I'm a Data Engineer, working for a mudlogging company offshore Angola.

I work in Angola...I work on an oil rig.
You sure move up in the world fast.

Ok we didn't mean to be offensive your stories just seem to be a bit unbelievable.

For us poor folk I am curious what do you do for a living that you can
- Take 2 months off to see the world (4 different continents in the last 2 months, excluding Africa)
- Earn 10 times what us plebs earn
- buy the latest gadgets
- pay $400 per night hotel rate excluding other amenities.

My guess is rich daddy? Just curious as you seem to be having it.

I'm a professional trainer with a degree in Geology(Proud Tuks graduate). My dad earns way less than what I just spend today, but he is a hard-worker, he made sure that I study.

If my dad were a rich man, I doubt I'd be spending $400 a night on unrated hotels, I'm sure I'd be somewhere in vegas blowing his cash.

That was then, and this is now, I was heavily underpaid for the industry I'm working in. I've moved from field work to office work, I'm now being paid according to my grade not the country I'm coming from like before. The oil industry is amazing, I've met people who make $1500 per day, if you meet them on the street or at work you'd think they are just common men who work for an average salary.

Those charges are crazy though, Im in Malawi using a local cellular provider and calls back home to vodacom only cost 30 kwacha per minute with a 17% discount after the first minute. Works out to about R1.36 per min.

I have stayed in the cheapest, smallest and crappiest hostels in the US, and even they had internet suitable for Skype, so I don't buy it.

+1 ... this has not been my experience with hotels in the USA. Their rates are good and their complimentary internet is good enough for Skype calls.
Heck, any time you sign on there are about five different open wi-fi signals. Just pick one and use it.

I don't know why assume lying all the time on this forum.

Um, is that an iPhone 4S?

Why didn't you use that to make the calls? Or even use Skype on the iPhone to make the calls?

something doesn't sound right here...

Why don't you go to a Macdonalds or a Starbucks and use the Wi-fi there?

I might have exaggerated a bit, when I said I earn 10 times more, I assumed that you'd be making R8900 per month. I still don't have a house though, or a car for that matter :).
So you make US$10000+ a month? Then your initial post/complain does not add up. US$ 10000+/month . . . my ass Tsch Tsch Go post your lies somewhere else.

Dude, are you reading my previous posts? I bought the iPhone same day when they gave me relevations about phone charges, should I really repeat myself? I have an iPad and IPod, they both have Skype, Internet is just too darn slow.

I am not staying in the inner city, I am in a Surbarban area 10 minutes away from George Bush airport. Ask anyone about directions here, they'll tell you that Starbucks is about 5 minutes from here, that 5 minutes is not for walking, it's for driving. Houston road network was not designed with a pedestrian in mind, they have what I think is the best Highway system in the world, I believe they call it Katy Highway and at its extreme point has 26 lanes running parallel, you'd never find an off ramp with less than 2 lanes. The first thing I said to myself was "no wonder why Americans are so obese" they rely too much on driving. At my previous hotel I could see Bestbuy across the street, but U couldn't walk there because of a 10 lane highway with no pedestrian crossing, I had to call a cab.

Anyways the maintenance guy at the hotel has given me a trick on how to get awesome Internet speeds, simple, just plugin the network cable, now I am getting a ping: 26 ms, Down: 8.6MB and UP:10.1 MB. He says that the wifi has been intentionally throttled to push guests towards the phone.
